Here are photos from an Emergency Session of the House of Representatives on deregulation of the Petroleum Downstream Sector in Abuja on Monday. The House summoned the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Dr. Ibe Kachikwu, to appear before its floors and explain why the government increased the pump price of petrol to N145 from N86.50k.

Deregulation of the downstream oil sector is the next best thing to happen since Independence.

The only thing I will support NLC for is fighting for salary increment of workers.

Buhari is just using this one to do the Yo man's job. If indeed these people spoke against fuel increase before and if indeed they promised to bring down the price of fuel and now after getting into power they want to deceive us into believing they are fighting for us they will be disgraced out of office surely.

It is not by force, if they don't have idea what to do they should honorably quit before they crash this country. They have been lying and jumping from pillar to post. The other time this same tyro minister kachiku said he was unbundling NNPC when that one backfired overnight he denied that it wasn't unbundling but restructuring, now he has come again. Somebody should tell him and his paymaster that Nigeria is not an experimental lab where we train people how to be a minister at the expense of people's life.

It is not today that we have been seeing ministers of petroleum yet we never had it so terribly bad and to compound it lies upon Lai s. No single truth in their dealings with Nigerians.

In all of these what is Jagaban saying because I know he will never agree to the suffering of Nigerians, this is not what he went round the nation promising Nigerians to vote for APC . He needs to speak before the greatest of the greatest Nigeria students hit the streets.

Even if you don't understand the terminology called 'subsidy removal', you could have known that it might be uncessary for GEJ to remove it as at then because it was the time Nigeria experienced the highest PMS price in history over $120.

Now, the price is not even up to the half of what it was under PMB. Debt needs to be serviced: workers' salaries needs to be increased: power sector is down to zero output despite huge yearly allocation since the inception of democracy (16 years of PDP regime): state allocations has been drastically reduced, which made it difficult for them to pay salaries etc. All

In consideration of the fact that Nigeria practices mono-culture economy characterized by over-reliance on oil whose price has dropped evidently, where do you think government can source for money except subsidy removal?

Remember, the situation has gone worse before GEJ's exit to the extent that FG was borrowing to pay workers with over $120: get it right sir.

Thank you but remember we have been on this same mono economy since time immemorial some even threatened that if subsidy is not removed Nigeria would crash but today we are still standing. Judging from what you have said this government has promised to pay unemployed 5k monthly, feed students etc is it from this same subsidy removal? if it is why would the poor workers and hapless Nigerians be the sufferer for this economic downtown which we ought to blame on the useless leaders we have had over the years.

They refused to diversify the economy when they petrol price was good and I mean Gowon/Obasanjo oil boom era, IBB gulf war windfall, Abacha monumental looting and so on till the last administration. Instead they stole our money to enrich themselves at the expense of our national and collective commonwealth.

A people oriented leader will look at how to make the very rich in our society bear the bigger brunt of this economic quagmire since they are the once who benefitted from oil wells and so on. Why pass it to the common man. It is wickedness. Couldnt the clueless leadership have taxed the big oil companies more and the in the spirit on Nigeria incrementally mark up the price after due consultation with all stakeholders.
Where do you expect the poor Nigerians whos salary are no been increased to get the addditional money to pay for the associated rise in cost of goods and services, where, where, where tell me my brother.

We cannot be fooled again, they said it when they were campaigning, they saw the problem they said they can fix it, we trusted them and voted for them, why then do they want to betray the trust we reposed in them. Look at it now the president has openly labelled Nigeria as corrupt by extension he too is corrupt, who will come and invest in a corrupt country.

If they cannot fix the problem they should honorably quit the scene afterall they have openly admitted that the economy has gone out of the control of Buhari. If they refuse to tow the path of honor in the face of cluelessness then they should remember history because it never fails to repeat itself. Nigeria is our own we will not fold our arms and allow those who have nothing to loose destroy our future and mortgage the future of our children and children's children.

It will only take the right policy decisions to galvanise other sectors of the economy. I can bet you even after all the fuel price increment with adequate plans to stimulate growth in agriculture, petrochemical, education other countries have done it so why cant we do it. They should forget oil and repair our refineries our crude oil should atleast be enough for our local consumption if we cannot make money through sells of crude oil.

My final conclusion is the way and manner Kachikwu and Buhari have been going about this situation clearly shows that they do not know what to do and so they are looking for the easy way out at the detriment and expense of the poor masses but they forget that there is God watching the actions of men.
Buhari must at all times be seen to stand with the people keeping silent and allowing Kachikwu to be behaving as if he is the one taking this unpopular decisions wont help. The bulk stops on his table so he must stop whatever will not augur well for Nigerians. We are all in it, if heaven is going to fall let it fall it will fall on all of us. Fuel price increase must and should be a decision that will be taken after due consultations and engagement with the Nigerian masses through debates and representations from duly accredited persons.
