Former Senate President and Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Anyim Pius Anyim, says arbitrary change of presiding officers of the 4th Assembly was why the lawmakers moved to impeach former President Olusegun Obasanjo. Anyim stated this on Monday in his address during a public lecture of the National Assembly Legislative Digest, which held at the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) Conference Centre in Abuja The former SGF described a situation where the impeachment of a presiding officer of the legislature is regarded as democracy in action, while that of the executive is seen as democracy under threat ,as unacceptable.

According to him, “a contrived impeachment of any elected officer in any arm of government is ‎unhealthy for democracy,” urging both arms of government to avoid impeachment at all costs. “On 29th May, 1999, the 4th National Assembly was inaugurated and one of the daunting challenges was the legislative-executive tango over the selection of leadership.

“When we met with Gowon and other former Heads of State, we shared one concern, that is the fact that a situation where impeachment of presiding officers of the National Assembly is regarded as democracy in action and that of the executive arm as democracy under threat is unacceptable,” Anyim said. He added that the 4th Assembly,‎ through the passage of both the EFCC Act and the ICPC Act, gave life‎ to the institutional fight against corruption and abuse of office by elected officers.

In his own remarks, another senator in the 4th Assembly, Jonathan Zwingina, expressed concern over the deteriorating image of the National Assembly, saying journalists must be educated on the rights, privileges and duties of that arm of government.

Oga shut up. Thank your God obj didn't focus on you the way he did to that abouki, Ghali na'abba who was at the forefront of the impeachment plot and who later had a party in honour of obj towards the end of their 1st tenure when it was clear the impeachment plot had failed and obj was gonna influence the coming elections and 'fix' the pest.

The mumu even took obj to stage for a waltz!

But trust baba,na'abba didn't even win his own ward election talkless of returning as speaker. He has since become so politically irrelevant since then.

The impeachment plot was a northern game to fix obj who never played to their evil sketch.
Obj really fixed their bloody arsse.

God bless Obj

Obasanjo is one the the best President's in my opinion , after Musa yaradua .
He also ruled with military hands , and that military energy he used was so helpful in the economy development as well ...
Whoever tried to stop him was removed or silenced .
This same system is what buhari is failing in flying colors at , cos he lacks the intelligence and tenacity obj had , obj was a president full of life , a pro - active man ...
Even if a lot of people feel he embezzled a lot of funds .
Like the dude above me said ,
God bless obj !!!!

OBJ dealt with this man. And I think OBJ was unjust in that.

Unfortunately, OBJ today is the Messiah of the Ipodians.

Ipod and double standard are 5&6.

Spits.

MORNING BOOST :

We fight too many battles that don’t matter. If that battle is not between you and your destiny, then it’s a distraction. You have to learn to let things go.

Sometimes you need to stay and fight and take what belongs to you, but there are times that you need to walk away and let God make it up to you.

Good Morning. Wishing You a Lovely day.

Oga Pius Anyim, we though you performed well as Senate President, but please concentrate on the current issues.

Obasanjo has said we no longer have a country. And that's exactly how it is.
