You need to be patient... I was once a student there, remember you cant protest, complain or bring in a third party to protest or complain on your behalf except the norms have changed... Be guided properly before you take any step.
Excuse me! You don't expect me to keep quiet and allow them destroy My promising career. I did my part by going tru the school and doing everything required of me, they should do theirs also. How do u expect me to just watch them do whatever they like.? With my life?

The maritime academy of Nigeria oron is the only federal marine school is Nigeria.

The school which boasts of 4300+ trained Nigerian merchant Navy officers and over 65,000 other workers in the maritime industry since 1983 to 2015 and at this point is still below par in its academic excellence.

I enrolled for a short course which ran all through 2015, it was a 10months course of 2 semesters which I completed November last year.

Fast forward to may 2016, No result, No certificate to forge ahead in my career.

Like everyother professional career which requires both theoretical and practical experience to excel, the marine industry both deck and engine requires more practical experience.
But for my 2 semesters in the school, the lecturers could only teach u on the white marker board since the school lack basic equipments to take u practicals.
Well since I already work onboard ships, I have knowledge of the practicals so I wasn't really bothered but how about those who haven't?

Having completed the course, paid in full and having no issue whatsoever, not even the first semester result have been released, we where only 30 candidates for the session so I see no reason why they should withhold it.
We contacted the H. O. D who confirmed that the results are ready but the school have to setup a board meeting to deliberate on it before it could be released, (this was since mid February). Now the pain here is, the new session for 2016 will be starting first semester exams Monday may 23rd, without the results of the previous session released.
Having made the calculations, if they should go ahead to write the exams, and they eventually release the result, anyone having any issue like carry over will have to wait till 2017 to rewrite it and then wait again to same time 2018 to get your certificate. This is like running a programme of 1 year for 4 years due to negligence on the part of the scrappy institution.

A colleague who ran the same short course in a private institution same time last year and paid far less to what I paid to a federal institution as tuition already got his certificate and he will be rounding up his officers course by June this year while am still here with year half spent still waiting for a result which is probably sitting on the desk of someone covered in dust.

Bros I sympathize with you but as for your question, the answer is in the affirmative. You did wrong in studying there. Did you try to find out their historical antecedents before going there to register?

Having said that, this school should not abort the dreams of its students. One can approach the court for an appropriate writ compelling the school to produce the result. Talk to your lawyer.

The issue of Coc is even a problem from nimasa. Coc now is once yearly which was previously 3 times. So u can see why am frustrated.

Just be patient and hope that the result will be released just in time for coc nxt yr. The Nigerian govt keeps complaining about lack of technical know how in the offshore industry but look at how long it will take an average student to become ordinary 2nd officer. Most of my friends have abandoned the career and are towing a different career path already

I did make enquiries and I got mixed most negative and some positive feedbacks but I had no choice since I could also use the certificate international if the need be which is not possible with those gotten from the private.
I haven't taught of using a lawyer.. Thanks for the tip.

Look at these so called human beings. The man has a problem and you have no suggestions for a solution. If you were the one who had a serious problem and was looking for advice, would you appreciate such comments? Why don't you just not comment at all rather than display your boundless stupidity? Nonsense school!
if i hadn't schooled in the school, i wouldn't have known how substandard the school is.
The Academy is just overrated.
lack of basic facilities and poor hostel conditions(jam packed cabins) coupled with substandard lecturers and lack of basic teaching aids and technology(no training vessel).
A maritime school where you are not even taught how to swim(except you register and pay for STCW courses).
You are subjected to harsh military training and left with little or no time for your books.
i wouldnt wish my enemy to study there. In conclusion, at OP, i don't think you made a mistake studying there, you were obviously just misinformed about the credibility of the institution

Well I'll proudly disagree on the bolded part.... I think you should look closely today in Nigeria coastal waters that Nigerians are handling almost all the vessels offshore except for Multinational companies like Seatruck which an average Nigerian man would cling to a post of a chief officer and second engineer)

Nigerians are competent to handle AHTS, tug, Security Patrol boat (Likes of SVS boats)

Mind you... Due to strict regulations on local content when bidding for contract, The locals are considered first before the expatriates... But some companies are still bypassing to hire expatriates to carry on some jobs which I know a lot of Nigerians can handle perfectly.

Well, this is interesting.

Nigeria churns out Associate Degrees in Technical education with no hands on practical experience.

I hope they don't do that with aviation but then I'll never be caught dead on a Nigerian airline that originate from inside Nigeria.

It is not well.

MAN, Oron, is more of a financial institution...where its just the more money that matters. The results are released very late so that 1) when you have CO, you will pay again thereby generating income for them. 2) due to the timing of result-release, you won't have enough time to even think of writing a complain. 3) you will look @ the time you wasted and reson that since time has gone already, why not just re-register again.
But my suggestion is: get other people in your own condition as there are lots, organise and write a letter. I heard there are some cadets who had done so, though I don't know if there is progress. Just don't do anmything alone, as you may be invited to relax in cell.
