My problem with Buhari is that if during his campaign, he was criticizing GEJ policies constructively, this issue would have normalize by now: but rather they were interested in occupying Aso Rock at all cost. I don't knw d name i shld give their version of politics. 43 Likes 4 Shares |

I am strongly against the fuel price hike but the proposed strike action by NLC and TUC is not the way forward. The labour movement should engage the government constructively instead of declaring a strike that we all know won't be effective due to the factionalisation of NLC. Labour should use this opportunity to negotiate for a meaningful reduction in the pump price, substantial increase in minimum wage and the immediate payment of all outstanding promotion arrears and 28 days allowances instead of embarking on a fruitless strike action. 22 Likes 2 Shares |

A man left government a year ago, his image still loom larger than life. Another came a year ago, everything he touched turned to dust! In the realm of hypothesis, many said we would have been worse! I ask, what can be worse than this? A government run by NEOPHYTES and APPRENTICES? No economic policies in place. Today, I am not convinced on devaluation. Next day, we will devalue to reflect present reality. Just before you think there is hope, you hear deregulation where government fixes prices of a commodity they can't provide. In another breath, oh, thank God we have removed subsidy on petroleum products. Just before you Erupt hope, the Vice president said we have not removed subsidy. They banned the operation of domiciliary accounts and just as you say mama, they reversed themselves with unpardonable collateral damage to commerce. Their broomstick must have swept their brains into the 'odo ogun'! Nigeria is no doubt an animal farm! Akanni Ola Balogun 104 Likes 9 Shares |

The link says .. ABUJA – The National Industrial Court, NIC, sitting in Abuja has stopped the Nigerian Labour Congress, NLC, and the Trade Union Congress, TUC, from embarking on a strike action tomorrow. The labour unions had in a communique they issued at the end of an emergency meeting the held on Saturday, vowed to embark on a nationwide industrial action should the federal government refuse to reverse the sudden hike in the price of fuel. However, in a ruling on Tuesday, the NIC President, Justice Babatunde Adejumo, restrained the labour unions from going on strike, pending the determination of a suit the federal government lodged before it. Justice Adejumo further ordered all the parties to maintain status quo until the legal dispute is settled. The order followed an ex-parte application that was filed by the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, SAN. Determined to abort the planned strike action, the AGF approached the NIC, begging it to restrain the labour unions from “shutting down the nation”. Placing reliance on section 14 of the 1999 Constitution, as amended, FG, insisted that it would not be “in the national interest” for the NLC and TUC to proceed on nationwide strike over the fuel price increase. Malami, SAN, argued that no amount of damages could serve as compensation if the labour unions are allowed to shut down the economy. Contending that the balance of convenience was in favour of the government, the AGF, prayed the court to determine “Whether the respondents (NLC, Trade Union Congress) have complied with the laid down condition precedent for embarking on strike”. As well as, “Whether indeed there exist in law and in fact the basis of which the respondents’ total closure of the economy can be justified”. He told the court that the respondents met on Saturday and issued a communique wherein it gave government a three-day ultimatum to reverse the decision increasing fuel price. He said the respondents, aside threatening to shut down the country if government failed to reverse the fuel price increase, equally threatened to close down all government offices, seaport, airports and markets. The AGF argued that ordinary and law abiding citizens would be subjected to hardship if the respondents were allowed to go ahead with their threat. He said the government was left with no alternative but to seek the intervention of the court. Besides, Malami told the court that he got notice of the communique on Sunday and quickly filed an originating summons, a motion on notice and an ex-parte application to determine whether NLC’s decision was justified in the circumstance. He insisted that “great and irreparable damage” would be done against the nation and “ordinary and law abiding citizens”, should the court refuse the ex-parte application. Meanwhile, though neither NLC nor TUC was represented in court, Justice Adejumo granted the ex-parte motion, even as he ordered the service of all the relevant court processes on the respondents. The restraining order against the respondents will elapse after seven days. |

would make sense, subsidy removed and price is 100/liter and the minimum wage is #45000, enforced at both public and private firms. 1 Like 2 Shares |

Hahahahahahhaha I knew this strike was not going to work. This is the 1st time in history that most members of the masses would not support a planned strike from NLC. At this point it is obvious we need the subsidy removal as a nation. God bless Nigeria.... 12 Likes 1 Share |

NLC should join hands with this government to move Nigeria forward. Fuel subsidy must go and it is only fair that the minimum wage be upwardly reviewed. For those asking why we opposed subsidy removal under GEJ. What did he do with the $100/barrel revenue Nigeria was getting from crude oil sales? $60bn foreign reserves, $3 billion ECA, etc were squandered and they still wanted the small subsidy we were enjoying. Subsidy has been corruption-ridden from the get go but Jonathan was not the person to make good use of the funds to be saved from subsidy removal. What did he do with the SURE-P funds? Where are the buses and stoves he promised as palliatives? Looking at Dasukigate, etc why should I trust Jonathan with subsidy removal? Buhari has the integrity to make proper use of those funds. Well meaning Nigerians know this and that's why there is a reluctance to go on strike by many groups. Compare this response with the massive turnout that greeted Jonathan's subsidy removal in 2012. Nigerians are not fools 29 Likes 1 Share |
