Suspected Militants Bomb Agip Gas Pipeline Again by Omoedeki: 10:34pm On May 17, 2016
There were indications on Tuesday evening that militants operating in the Niger Delta may have again blown up a gas pipeline belonging to the Nigerian Agip Oil Company (NAOC) at Ogbembiri in Southern Ijaw local government area, Bayelsa State.

It would be more than a dozen times that the oil and gas facilities belonging to the Italian Oil giant would be breached this year alone.

The fresh attack by gunmen, it was learnt, occurred on the pipeline about 48 hours ago, which raised questions within the community as to why security agencies saddled with the responsibility of protecting oil installations had been unable to stop the frequent breaches.

Suspected ex-militants also recently attacked a pipeline carrying crude, located at Brass Local Government Area (LGA) of Bayelsa State, spilling the substance into the environment.

During the latest attack, the gunmen reportedly stormed the community at about 9:00pm, traced the pipeline and ruptured it at a point it was previously repaired after the last attack.

While some sources said dynamites were used to blow the pipeline, others said the gunmen deployed other mechanical devices to rupture the line along the axis.

The pipeline said to be a major gas supply facility in the country, reportedly crosses Tumor community in Bomadi, Delta State; Ogbuasiri in Ekeremor and Ogbembiri in Southern Ijaw, Bayelsa State.

“Agip awarded the contract for security surveillance and repairs of the pipeline in case of a breach to a contractor from the community.

“So, the contractor enjoys dual contract of protecting the pipeline and also repairing it whenever there is a leakage. But it is baffling how the pipeline increasingly comes under attack’’, a source said.

He added that the facility, “ is a major pipeline because it supplies gas for domestic consumption’’, noting that ‘’Agip has spent a lot of money fixing it.”

While the pipeline is said to be relatively safe in other communities, it has continued to be incessantly attacked at the Southern Ijaw community.

Continue degrading your land, very soon Dangote refinery would soon take off and crude oil had been found outside the Niger Delta.

The dulllard should send fulani herdmen.

He won't negotiate with owners of the oil, but he will reward Boko Haram terrorists with rehabilitation and assimilate them into the Nigerian army. Also Buhari wants to annex southern villages as free land for Fulani herdsmen to graze their cattle, while neglecting the victims of fulani herdsmen killings, just because they do not belong to his own fulani tribe.

let the bombing continue, yes, Nigeria will loose, after that, the host community would be left worst off due to all form of pollution..

the militants action can be liken to a man who sets his own house on fire to get an attention. after getting the attention,he will be left ruined...

Thought army arrested their leaders. Confusion everywhere!!

Abeg Buhari if you or any of your aides read this, call Tompolo and negotiate. The innocent people are suffering this show of power. Truth is that the cost of trying to end amnesty far outweigh the stipends paid to the militants. When this excalates, it would be telling on your administration's already failing programmes.

To all those advocating military option, it is now on record that Nigeria has dropped to No. 2 oil producer in Africa, losing approximately 800,000 barrels per day. Simply put, we are losing $38.4M daily or $1.2Billion monthly. This is aside the losses associated with gas leaks, poor electricity supply, loss man-hour, cost of repairing damaged facilities and the costs associated with keeping the army, navy and police in the bushes and creeks. These are facts that the Hon. Minister of Finance should be giving to Mr. President and not sycophancy!

The wise dialogue while the stubborn and foolish push for war! The latter is an ill-wind that blows no-one no good!!!

The darkness we are experiencing in Nigeria now, is already affecting our senses.

It is too much, i am finding it tough with this darkness.

Buhari should do something fast.

Dialogue with them, everything is not by military might.

Put your phone to productive use and Google the reason why tomato is scarce and you will find out it has nothing to do with Buhari. Throwing insults make you worse than those you throw insults at. Ladies are supposed to behave like one especially those hoping to get married one day and and up in a man's kitchen

Buhari was never and will never be the man Nigeria needs at this time. Its all been anarchy, deaths, hunger, poverty, threats, uncertainty, anger, losses, desperation, propaganda and noises since the Daura champion found his way to asorock.

A man who is not at peace with himself cannot give peace. Buhari is a troubled man and that is why he took battle to the creeks even when the world beckoned on him to find a peaceful solution to the issue of Niger Delta. Today, we all live with outcomes of the decisions coming from a grossly incompetent president.
