Flap, flap, flap. The well-worn slippers sounded as the people hurry down the narrow bush path. Where are we going? Hurrying as a zombie programmed to function without a thought. Deja vu! Have I not been here before? With echoes from the past streaming in like a live feed, I paused. Kith against kin, killing and maiming, scorching the earth with blood needless shed. I shuddered as I heard the cries of ravished women mourning the loss of dignity violently stripped. The voices of innocent children made to bear the brunt of adult’s madness toxified into shrilling cries. Those killed by bullets rejoice over those left to pine and waste. Then I saw those whose mind simply snapped when seen horror fragile souls could not bear. Past gall unregarded many still thronged the old path just to rush and beat the drums of war. But wars will only make fools of us all winners and losers alike. http://heartygleanings..com.ng/2016/05/lest-we-go-this-path-again.html

“I confess without shame that I am tired and sick of war. Its glory is all moonshine. It is only those who have neither heard the shrieks and groans of the wounded, who cry aloud for more blood, more vengeance, more desolation. War is Hell.” ~ Civil War Union General William Tecumseh Sherman who orchestrated the infamous scorched earth policy that terrorized the Confederacy in his “March to the Sea” in 1864. |
