The Nigerian military has been ranked fourth in Africa after Egypt, Algeria and Ethiopia – The report was done by the Global Fire Power, an international organization which provides unique analytical display of data concerning modern military powers. According to a report by the Global Firepower (GFP), the Nigerian military is the most powerful military in Africa after Egypt, Algeria and Ethiopia. South Africa comes fifth after Nigeria. The GFP, an international organization which provides unique analytical display of data concerning modern military powers in its report listed 30 countries with the most powerful military in Africa. The report said the list of the African military was drawn based on country with the most personnel resources, equipment – air, naval and petroleum – to sustain its military among many other factors. The report said the ranking system focuses on the diversity of weapons and provides bonuses and penalties for facilities like nuclear arms, diversity of force structures, and other alliances like Nato. The 30 African countries ranked alongside Nigeria in the order from the sixth to the thirtieth are: Angola, Morocco, Sudan, Libya, Democratic Republic of Congo, Kenya, Tunisia, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Chad, Uganda, Tanzania, South Sudan and Ghana. Others are Cameroon, Mozambique, Niger, Ivory Coast, Mali, Madagascar, Gabon, Republic of the Congo, Namibia, Somalia and Central African Republic. Recently, the Nigeria military in its effort has sustained an onslaught against the dreaded Boko Haram terrorists that have been operating in the north east since 2009. The latest feat by the Nigerian military is the rescue over a Chibok schoolgirl, Amina Ali, last week around the infamous Sambisa forest with the help of civilian Joint Task Force. Also, the next day another girl, Sarah Luka who is said not to be among the over 200 abducted schoolgirls was rescued by the Nigerian military. Meanwhile, in the world military ranking, United States of America has been the strongest since 1945 followed by Russia, China, India and the United Kingdom.
