A nurse is an individual that cares for the sick ones with professional skills based on educational and clinical proficiency. Nursing profession is giuded by ethics and etiquette which governs andd rules activities of the profession.
An individual cannot be called a nurse without passing through the four walls of school of nursing or university. At the end of the training each student shall sit for final qualifying examination , the successful students shall be awarded REGISTERD NURSE. Anyone who did not follow this route is never a nurse. A CHEW ( Community Health Extension Worker) is not a nurse as an example, those ones that attended school of health technology or hygiene are NEVER NURSES. Any person trained by a doctor in a private hospital is not a nurse nor the chemist attendant. Not everyone in white is a nurse nor a lady in white with cap.
It's very disheartening and embarrassing for a widely read newspaper as tagged could publish an article on a QUACK that did abortion for a 12year old girl ( Favour). professional journalism is based on accuracy, facts, timeliness, professional, balanced and concise. All these attributes are lacking in that caption. The woman in question isn't a NURSE but QUACK. Beside there is nothing like quack nurse as a point of correction, you are either a nurse or never.
In Nigeria, abortion is inimical and illegal. Thus all professionals in the health sector are aware of it with few exemptions of threatened abortion, therapeutic abortion and others. Punch Newspaper should sharpen its journalism skills and balance its report in all ramifications. This is pure professional defamation and professional character assassination. Punch Newspaper should retract that story and remove the caption of nurse and nurse quack. Also tender apology to all nurses ands nursing profession.

The title"NURSE" used by Punch Newspaper is an unacceptable PROFESSIONAL TAG. The lady in question is a QUACK and the best way to portray a QUACK is a QUACK. A NURSE is anyone who has undergone professional training and is licensed by the NURSING AND MIDWIFERY COUNCIL OF NIGERIA to practice as a NURSE. An unlicensed person who tries to practice the Nursing Profession is a QUACK and not a QUACK NURSE.

Then this reveals that punch has quack journalists as employees.

It is so disgusting and disheartening that punch news paper will decide to use the title "NURSE" instead of a "QUACK". Not everyone in white is a NURSE, they said it themselves in their report that she is a QUACK while defaming the profession
This is an avenue to say no to quackery in this country and sentisize the public. Journalism in Nigeria is also something else, punch should refrain the title nurse....she is a QUACK and not a NURSE!

Journalism is more than just reporting a case. It require following the ethics, rules and guidelines. It require certain level of investigation before publishing. The word NURSE stand to represent a professional body that are qualified, certified and licensed to care for the masses (healthwise). Categorically stating or using such name to represent somebody that doesn't belong to the profession is IMPERSONATION. Using it for a QUACK is LIBEL, SLANDER, DEFAMATION, DETRACTION, ASPERTION and CALUMNY. The press was released after confirming her status as a QUACK. Then why the word NURSE as headline? This is declaring a war against such body! It's an ASSAULT to world nurses.
Punch mobile need to RETRACT such statement and apologise publicly, as this is defamation of highest order.

Nurses are professionals, you cannot just refer to anybody as a Nurse hust because the person is wearing white or even scrub. Anyone that is not trained in accordance with the provisions or standards of a certain profession cannot use the title of such profession. A lawyer is not called a lawyer or Barrister until he graduates from law school and is call to bar, after his University program, if he didn't go to law school, he will not be called a lawyer, same goes for Nursing, if you are not trained in any school of Nursing or have Bsc Nursing, you cannot be called a Nurse. Always ask the person in white where he or she graduated from, if they mentioned a chemist, a doctor's name school of health technology THEY ARE NOT NURSES. You can go further by asking of their Registration Number or license if you cannot get the license he or she should know hjs or her Registration Number.

Using the title NURSE for a Quack is defaming, the person in question is a quack and should be addressed as such. Can you call a university graduate of law a lawyer without going to law school and being called to bar?

Nurses are not Quacks as widely used by punch newspaper. If they are oblivious of who a Nurse is, they should ask rather than defaming the image of our noble profession. Why not attribute Quacks to other professionals? Why only Nurses?. Nurses deserve unreserved apology from punch management. We are professionals and not Quacks.

The problem we have in Nigeria is our level of education, been certificated doesn't mean u re educated. Nursing is a profession guided by an ethical body nd not just an occupation. Punch should refrain their statement nd apologise to Nurses. Nursing body can sue them for image denting but I'm surprised that d Nursing body in Nigeria would remain silent on this.
