Kano Pillars have expressed confidence they will be awarded the three points by CAF following their protest against the eligibility of Zimbabwean striker Edward Sadomba, who played against them last week in a Champions League Group A match.
Sadomba played 89 minutes before he was replaced by young Nigerian striker Sherif Sule as Sudanese giants Al Hilal beat Pillars 2-0 to climb to the top of the standings. His eligibility has come under sharp focus since Al Hilal's opening Group A match against local rivals El Merreikh also prompted a protest to CAF over the player.

Sadomba and Tshibasu Kabundi were registered for the Champions League after Hilal were alleged to have illegally loaned out Nigerian defender Ajibade Omolade and Brazilian star Regis Adair Quaresma de Souza to Nigerian clubs.

“We are very confident of winning this protest because we have established a very good case against Al Hilal and we know a credible organisation like CAF will be fair, and justice will be done in our favour,” Pillars spokesman Shehu Adamu tells Goal.com.

“We played the match in Sudan against them under protest, and within the allowed 48 hours we put across a formal protest to CAF and paid the protest fee. The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), through secretary general Bolaji Ojo-oba, also sent a backing letter to Cairo.”

The CAF committee is expected to meet in the second week of September to deliberate on the protests of both El Merreikh and Kano Pillars against Al Hilal.

Al Hilal lead Group A with seven points from three matches, while Pillars and Zesco United of Zambia are joint second on four points apiece.
