The Afe Babalola University, Ado-Ekiti has just become the fourth university in the country to offer Pharmacology degree at the undergraduate level. The B.Sc Pharmacology programme which takes off this September is domiciled within the College of Medicine and Health Sciences.

Pharmacology is an experimental science that studies the effects of drugs/medicines on the human body and how the human body processes drugs/medicines. It is one of the fields of study that Pharmacy(BPharm, PharmD) and Medicine (MBBS) have in common. Presently, pharmacologists are in short supply in the country, just like pharmacists. And that is because only few universities offer Pharmacology at the undergraduate level. I believe short supply is what the management of the Afe Babalola University seek to address. Students of BSc Pharmacology will spend four (4) unbroken years (trust ABUAD for stable academic sessions). In the first year, they will offer foundational courses like Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and Mathematics, and in the second year they will take selected basic courses in Physiology, Anatomy, Biochemistry to properly ground them for pharmacological sciences. Apart from the core pharmacology courses, they will offer selected topics in Pharmaceutical Chemistry and Analysis, Pharmacognosy and Pharmaceutics. It will also delight interested candidates that pharmacology is largely experimental and that the students will be actively involved in both simulated and actual drug testing experiments that seek to discover new drug treatment for human diseases.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENT FOR UNDERGRADUATE PROGRAMMES

Five O’Level Credit Passes at not more than two sittings to include English Language, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology.

PURCHASE OF APPLICATION FORMS
Candidates who chose ABUAD in the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) are to pay the sum of N10,500.

CHANGE OF INSTITUTION
Candidates who did not choose Afe-Babalola University (ABUAD) in the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) are also qualified to participate in the Post UTME screening of the University by paying the Sum of N2,500 for change of Institution and N10,500 for the Post UTME Form.
Admission into ABUAD for Non Direct Entry Candidates is subject to successful passing of the UTME Examination and the Post-UTME screening.
Candidates awaiting SSCE results or its equivalent can also apply for admission provided the result will be available at resumption in September, 2016.
