The video above shows clips of the burial of Nigeria's first Military head of state, Major General Johnson Thomas Umunnakwe Aguiyi-Ironsi in his hometown of Ibeku, Umuahia, present day Abia state in January 1967. Two weeks earlier, Ojukwu in one of his demands at the Aburi meeting had demanded that Ironsi's corpse be realeased for a state burial. The video shows Ironsi's Coffin being carried by Military officers led by a priest to an Airplane in Lagos Airport (Later to be known as Murtala Mohammed Aiport) behind the coffin is a group of top officers of the time which includes, Admiral Akinwale wey (Navy chief), Colonel Adebayor (Military Governor of the western region). The plane would later land in Enugu Airport where it was recieved by the Governor of the Eastern Region Lt Colonel Chukwuemeka Ojukwu and Ironsi's Widow, Lady Ironsi. Ironsi's widow was allowed to inspect the Coffin and confirm it was her husband. Thereafter, the Coffin was transported by train to Umuahia for a state burial. In the last clip, Ironsi's Coffin is lowered into the grave. By the graveside are Ironsi's children, Wife, family members as well as Lt Colonel Ojukwu and Lt Colonel Hilary Njoku. The final seconds of the video shows Ironsi's Widow putting earth into her husbands grave followed by Ojukwu who did the same with Lt Colonel Njoku standing next to Ojukwu. An Igbo funeral song plays for the duration of the video. Remarkably, Lt Colonel Hilary Njoku was with Fajuyi and Ironsi at Government House Ibadan the day they were surrounded,abducted and killed by northern soldiers led by Theophilus Danjuma. Njoku managed to escape Government House with bullet wounds and made his way to a hospital. When the northern Soldiers came looking for him at the Hospital, he again escaped and carried the bullets in his leg until he made it back to the East. On the declaration of Biafra, Njoku was promoted to Brigadier General and appointed Biafran Army Boss. He would later fallout with Ojukwu and was removed and kept under house arrest until the end of the war. [/b]

Gowon knew about the coup well in advance. But he did not warn Ironsi because he knew that as the highest ranking officer from the North, the death of Ironsi would make him President.

Ironsi was well warned about the coup that was coming, but instead of him to order the immediate arrest of the Young Northern officers such as Major Murtala Mohammed, Major TY Danjuma, Major Gibson Halo, Major Paul Targa amongst others, He kept on promoting "one Nigeria" until they came and killed him.
