Two arraigned for allegedly swindling prospective tenants of N19.9m

Two men are now facing trial at an Ikeja Magistrate Court for allegedly letting out the same two-bedroom flat apartment to 98 different would- be tenants and swindling them of N19.815m.

The men, Olusola Akeju and Akinrinsola Emmanuel were arraigned on a 34-count charge of obtaining money by false pretence and thereby committing an offence punishable under section 516 of the Criminal Code Cap 31 Vol. 11 laws of Lagos State of Nigeria 2003.

Also, a 57-year-old Adeshina Bakare was arraigned on a 15-count charge of obtaining money by false pretence at court 17 of the Ikeja Magistrate Court.

Akeju and Emmanuel collected N15. 815 million from nine people between December 2008 and June 2009 the pretence of letting a two- bedroom flat located at 45, Olugbede Street, Egbeda, Lagos. They were arraigned in Courtroom 16 of the Magistrate Court.

Out of the 92 people, N11.315 million was collected from 60 of them.

The victims include Mr. Okere Joseph, Mrs. Esther Austine, Mr. Moses Okosun, Mr. Frankly Nwakwo and Mr. Kabiru Yaya, and others.

Bakare perpetrated his own act by collecting N3.380 million from six people between October 2007 and November 2008 to let them the same two-bedroom flat located 13, Oyewole Street, Palm-Groove, Lagos.

He also allegedly stole property worth N1.2 from one Mr. Ola Abayomi and Mrs. Ikekwa Valeria, thereby committing an offence punishable under section 419 of the criminal code cap 17 Vol. 11, Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2003.
