PRESS RELEASE:

~ Following the high spate of petitions and complaints from stakeholders in the Banking, Insurance and Financial Institutions, I hereby direct the suspension of the on-going retrenchment in the sector pending the outcome of the conciliatory meetings in the industry.

This is as a result of the apprehension by my office of the various disputes in the sector in accordance and in compliance with the provisions of the labour laws of Nigeria.

This decision is further predicated on the fact that the continued retrenchment and redundancy by the banks and other financial institutions are jeopardizing the outcome of the conciliatory and mediatory processes being undertaking by the Ministry of Labour and Employment.

In this wise, all the retrenchments and redundancies done in the last four months and all proposed ones should be put on hold, pending the outcome of the proposed stakeholders’ summit for the Banking, Insurance and Financial Institutions’ employers and employees, slated for the first week of July, 2016.

All parties are therefore advised in the interest of industrial peace and harmony to maintain the status-quo ante-belum.

Sen. Dr. Chris Nwabueze Ngige (OON)
Hon. Minister of Labour and Employment.

Is FG going to pay the salaries of the workers? Buhari policies have sucked all liquidity in circulation and by this the banking industry is strangulated by draught and forced to downsize or fold....

BAD POLICIES ARE BAD FOR BUSINESS...you can't flog a child and ask him not to cry.

So our government money must always keep banks afloat for ever?.

Nigeria sef, the cluelessness of the young is worse than the old. No innovation, every body is just a drab conservative in this country.

You are a very young foool. Why must it be workers that will suffer from brain dead bank executives who are just errand boys for politicians. They will take government money in their vaults before TSA , lend it to contractors, starve farmers and industrialists of funds and declare fake profits every year. Very very stupid country. Now government removed their funds and the first thing they thought of doing was to sack workers. How about developing new products for SMEs and farmers?. How about true mini mortgage loans?. So many financial products that can be targeted at the middle class also. All this they won't do but take it out on young workers they will and you are defending them stupidly. Do you know how many jets Jim Ovia uses.

Common sense is not so common after all!!!
You talk long and loud but say nothing.
It is people like u (illiterate know it all) that run this new regime(instituted failure) and so the people suffer greatly for your incompetence and folly.
Implementation of a policy can make or break.
Why do you think GEJ implimented TSA with caution?
For illiterates it is always trial and error.

U will rather the banks close shop?
