SULTAN SAYS 1437AH RAMADAN FASTING COMMENCES MONDAY

Sultan of Sokoto and Sarikin Mu'mineen of Nigeria, His Eminence Alhaji Muhammadu Sa'ad Abubakar III, announced yesterday, Sunday June 5, 2016, that the new moon for the commencement of Ramadan 1437AH fasting had been sighted. By that, he said Ramadan fast for 1437AH equivalent of 2016 starts today Monday 6th June, 2016.
Sultan Abubakar III made the announcement while addressing pressmen in his palace in Sokoto, Sokoto State.
He said, according to the report by National Moon Sighting Committee, the moon was sighted in many states of the country.
Noting that fasting in the month of Ramadan is an act of worship that is one of five pillars of Islam that every living and healthy Muslim man and woman must obligatorily begin to perform upon sighting or hearing announcement that new moon of Ramadan has been sighted.
The Sultan, who is also the President-General Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), seized the opportunity afforded him by the occasion to urge Muslims to devote themselves fully to the service of Allah and pray for the government to succeed in its effort to change Nigeria for better.
