Cecilia Ibru "arrested" by EFCC

Former Chief Executive Officer of Oceanic Bank plc, Mrs. Cecilia Ibru, is in the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission
(EFCC). She surrendered to officials of the commission at 2.45 PM Nigerian time today.

It was previously speculated that Mrs. Ibru had fled the country like her counterpart, Erastus Akingbola of InterContinental bank. She was
declared wanted by the agency, but while she was underground, she began a lawsuit that legal sources said gave her enough confidence to
meet with EFCC officials.

Officials of the anti-corruption agency, which has lost tremendous credibility locally and internationally in recent times, confirmed to Saharareporters that Mrs. Ibru is currently undergoing interrogation at the Ikoyi office of the commission.

Sue me then! She has done well just like the CEO of Lehman Brothers did well. I admit I may have been harsh but she won't be in this spot if she followed right processes or didn't take to catering and practising it with the bank's books. Thats jungle behaviour so jungle justice isn't CRAP!

She did well to diffuse the tension by going to the EFCC. Chief Akingbola should come back and tidy things up as well.

Abeg give madam Cecelia a break! this woman has bin like an angel until these recent unfortunate developments. why don't we just give her the benefit of doubt. She made mistakes & took some silly decisions, so wat?? Is the first person in history to do dat? Dis Sanusi man clearly doesn't kno wat he's getting himself into, why are they delaying the results of the other remaining banks?Why are they making these ones the scape goats and why is dat EFCC woman jumping up & down as if this is her only chance to be star. She is innocent until found guity. The civilized thing would be to give her an opportunity to defend herself.

the BBC in today's news report effectively ridiculed the Nigerian police of not knowing the difference between arresting someone and calling them in for question.

Nigeria's police use the word "arrest" very freely. It usually means they are questioning someone - and it does not carry any expectation of charges.

Sanitizing the banking industry is good but its also funny how this woman is going down alone cos last I heard, loans aren't approved by CEOs 99% of the time, neither are books cooked by CEOs.

This is not so far-fetched. She has to give a statement to enable the CBN collect the money from the bad debtors.

EFCC can only charge her to court or leave her alone.

The whole seizing of passport is an innovation and EFCC can't do that without a court order.

Pray what the investigation is meant to achieve.
-To ask if indeed her bank granted the loans?
-If she complied with all laid down rules and procedures before the loans were administered?
-If the loans have indeed gone bad?
-Why she was on the run before surrendering now?

I thought CBN had already said all these and prosecuted her by the removal.
