You must have heard lately that UNILAG management wanted to conduct exams for her students amidst the ASUU strike.

The action of the VC to defy the ASUU strike and go ahead to conduct the exam took another dimension when the member of ASUU UNILAG and the Non-Academic Staff went on rampage insisting that no exam will be conducted.  The students  the students were chased from their hostels and and the VC had to run for his dear life. God have mercy.

Nairalanders what's your reaction to this? Any party to be applauded or blamed? Lend your voice.

I blame the vc for such a stupid act he should talk to his colleagues at the national level of ASUU to call off the strike instead of trying to show hes a wise ass superstar

The Federal Government does not care how long the students spend at home.
Nigerian students should shape their future for themselves,
They have 5 days before the all important Nigeria - Tunisia match,  they could start by embarrassing the Federal Government by stopping that match undecided
Re: UNILAG: ASUU And NASU Went On Rampage Over Resumption by dominictj(m): 3:21pm On Aug 30, 2009
why cant all ASUU members speak in one voice.
Re: UNILAG: ASUU And NASU Went On Rampage Over Resumption by babaijo(m): 3:39pm On Aug 30, 2009
Honestly, federal govt is to be blamed on this matter. The fight which ASUU is fighting for is the aggreement reached by the fed. govt with ASUU years back and it is better done now or never. Although been a student, its affecting me but for the sake of our tomorrow I support the ASUU.

Both of them are to be blamed especially the govt who have failed their own people. Even ASUU themselves have disappointed our students and nigerians as a whole by this kind of useless act they have commited. Instead of them to settle down and plan how they are going to move things forward, they are here wasting their precious time, chasing the students and the VC himself. It's now left for the students and the nigerian citizens to stand up and fight for their own right in this country.

The best solution to the whole problem is to go on a Nationwide Protest, if nothing happens, maybe during the coming under17 world championship, we should protest so te everybody in this world go sabi wetin deh happen for this doomed nation.

VC's meeting with Deans and Provost His words: “These are difficult times that require ingenuity; the government alone cannot fund tertiary education. It is crucial to advance new strategies to look inwards in generating funds. No internationally acclaimed varsity relies on government for financial support and the case of UNILAG should not be different. For quite some time now, we have been pursuing ways of improving our internally generated funds and these require the commitment and support of every member of the University community.”

What else do you think he want other than for we poor masses to leave school. God help us, angry angry angry angry

This is good talk, very good talk. If we dont make the sacrifice of staying at home now for maybe 3 months, 6 months or even more, these issues will forever remain with us. The future generations will hold us accountable if after the older generation is gone and yet we dont have good teachers, educational infrasture is not in place. ASUU is fighting a just cause and student who are directly affected should support them. We need our lecture halls to be better, our lecturers well paid so they dont sleep with girls for marks or demand us to tip them before we can pass or purchase a handout and your name written on a list of automatic passers, and unless such measures are taken we can never reached there. Let Sam Egwu not use students to create pity when the Nigerian Government has refused to address the main issue.
The situation: Nigeria's Education is nothing to write home about : what needs to be done: There need to be a positive change in the sector. When should this be done: NOW is the time. Our NANS should not be calling on ASUU to call of strike but on Government to address the issues ASUU has brought out. Thank you babaijo for speaking well.

i think it's high time NANS and all students put on their thinking cap and see who will feel the spill over effect of this so-call ASUU strike because the truth of the matter is that they are arguing their points at the expense of who,

The problem with NANS these days is that they have been bought over by money. Was it not the same NANS that gave Prof Iwu an award some months back?

Money can do a lot of things.lol

Students should protest in the next Nigeria - Tunis match because U17 is just too far and besides that one no longer means anything to us due to the MRI scandal.

Menial jobs hardly require interviews.

I'm proud of the people who fought to stop the UNILAG exams from commencing. How can some people be continuing thier usual work when their colleagues are fightin a course to the benefit of everyone?
Re: UNILAG: ASUU And NASU Went On Rampage Over Resumption by Obeledu: 10:30am On Aug 31, 2009
Hello All,

Let me ask you people this question: Do you people thinks that even if federal govts. increases ASUU salary by

100% then the nigerian university problem will be over.?

The problem is the University leadership, which ASUU suppose to be fighting. The money the govts releases to the

university what do they use it for. The award of contract in the university should be looked into by the ASSu, the

extortion by lecturer, the issue of emphasis on handout instead of books, population explosion and many other

problems.

It is very ubfortunate that lectures have turned to behaving like motor park touts. Why unleash terror on dear students and the poor VC?
Re: UNILAG: ASUU And NASU Went On Rampage Over Resumption by poj(m): 11:59am On Aug 31, 2009
may be this kind of strikes is no more new to the nigerian populace. i remember experiencing six months ASUU strike around 2002/2003 as a student. Prof Aborisade (edu minister) and Baba iyabo were at d helms of affairs then.

lets continue to pray that they will feel what d poor masses are feeling.
