The Genesis Of Hijab In Osun State by HzRF(m): 9:17pm On Jun 15, 2016
I have read tons of comments 'bout the Hijab issue on NL but most don't know the genesis of this debacle

Let me quickly summarize what led us to the state we are today (not a fan of long epistle)

After Aregbe SALAMICALLY sent Oyinlola parking,he embarked on borrowing spree

He took loans from both local and international financial institutions

He patronized Islamic financial institutions e.g Islamic bank of Nigeria some of his supporters told me it's because of their next to nothing interest rate, JAIZ BANK among others

JAIZ BANK loaned him a larger percentage of the money he's using to build schools across the state(many in the state are still wondering how he was able to build schools without paying the workers and those working in the schools)

Part of the agreement with JAIZ BANK was that the schools are Islamic institutions

Aregbe in his 1st term in office started merging public schools together so as to be able to build 1 standard school for 2 (in some cases 3 or more) schools

These sees the likes of FAKUNLE (a very popular public school destroyed)

Aregbe directly introduced HIJAB in his 1st term before he shed the idea after meeting a strong barricade from the Christians in the state

The issue of Hijab or no Hijab died a natural death till weeks ago.infact most people in the state doesn't know there is any case in court pertaining to this issue

When CAN alleged that Aregbe is the unseen man toiling with a delicate issue like this definitely they know what they are saying

Hijab issue has been on ground for a while

Well,I know nothing about international or local loan...
All I knew was the madness started way back in 2013.
It leads to a situation where some muslim student beat a principal who sent a student home for refusing to off her hijab...

I sense a religious war if this man is not called into order...
Tinubu, buhari and Apc should pls caution this goat oooo

Students been using hijab for a very Kong time even before the coming of this republic . The Christians problem is fear of unknown.

Their argument is that the some of the schools are missionary established schools but they forgot that those has been taken over for God knows when by the government and it is the public money that the government is using to run the schools and not Church money .

Government build the classrooms , pay the teachers , ensure security and every other things so which means those schools are public schools and no more missionary schools again until the government return those schools.

How is the governor been bias here ? I don't understand why you all have been blaming the governor for Muslim students wearing hijab which has been happening for God knows when.

it was been used,bt not generally accepted..
The school principal may at his or her own wish reject the act.
Now that the governor legalize it..
You know what that means
*Our people will abuse the chance
*some people might even wear house cloth and cover it with hijab..
*Its even less fashionable(was it part of the official sch mode of dressing?)
*it destroy the dignity of the state education system..
*You dont even think of the security wise
*it also serve as distraction to fellow student

my brother, lets put the right peg in the right hole....

You have absolutely gone off the reservation here,

Let it be stated and corrected that the state government of osun has not made it mandatory for all female students for wear an hijab rather a judgement by Justice Falola assures the right of any student to practice their religious rights as guaranteed in the constitution of federal republic of Nigeria without fear or favour where such right does not impede that of others , thereby female students in public schools may wear a short hijab with their uniform.

This judgement is in defence of choice, as stated above those schools irrespective of the mission Christian or Muslim can not compulse an individual beyond his/her choice ; given those former mission schools are now state owned any religious-specific directives applicable to missions are null and void and superseded by civil law

Several years ago in UK and Ireland a judgement found it illegal for a Catholic school to refuse a prospective protestant or Muslim student on grounds of religious difference and vice versa or impede the free practice of religious obligation where it does not infract with the rights of others. It's no odd to see muslim girls wearing hijabs is a protestant mission school where a father is the English teacher

Please can you use Google to update yourself on what a short hijab is and how it is internationally accepted and work.

As far as I'm concerned, all institutions with prescribed uniforms should have those uniforms worn without any alteration or embellishments except for physical inability for which an alteration or addition may be necessary.

If the uniform for a school is a beret, sort/long sleeved shirts and flares/pleated/straight skirts of specified length for females for instance, then ALL students should appear the same without exception. Religious requirements affecting appearance should be excluded especially from secondary schools downwards because these are impressionable years for growing children. Let them focus on their education and social development without having their young minds troubled as to why someone appears differently from the other.

In the same vein, no male student should put on trousers of irregular or shortened lengths, the implication will be that he has outgrown the current pair and so his parents or the school will provide trousers of full length. Again everyone should appear the same and be able to relate on the level of friends and classmates without any religious colouration.

They should do their IRK or CRK as the case may be for purposes of their education and morals, and that's it! Any alteration in appearance should be in their homes or places of worship, anywhere outside their educational institutions, and that's that.

This should also be applicable to security agencies and uniformed institutions! The intervention of the court in this matter only further worsens the already tense religious conditions in Nigeria and I expect CAN to appeal the ruling of the High court.

Your claim is laughable. So you mean because the name aregbe cannot be trace to ilesha nullifies his chance of being a descendant of ileshagrin. This is really funny, people sometimes name their children with different title that cannot be traced to their particular clan, but that does mean they are not part of that clan.

To clear your doubt, check the past governor of Rivers state. His name ROTIMI is not in any way related to Niger delta.cheesy

With all this :
*can u please define uniform?
*Ever since ur days in school,av u ever for once been told to buy hijab as part of ur school uniform? Instead they make baret compulsory.
*remember each parent are to sign to the code and conduct of the school. meaning
u r to obey every rules and regulations of the school
*as stated in the constitution that we av right to our religion, was the rule extended to school premises? If yes, why are our muslim brothers and sister doing C.R.K in school, why christian songs been sang in school assembly always and not muslim songs.
*if same muslim have the right to wear what they like to school(hijab),why is the governor condemning the act of christian wearing their church garment to school.....or are they not nigerian? Or the constitution forbid the christian from doing that?

My brother,let's call a spade a spade...

Actually as I am not in support of LGBT cause , I believe God made man and woman for a unique purpose.
However the right to self determination is important in the scheme of things. An individual should be able to decide what is right for them even if that involves homosexual relationships.

So same with the use of hijab, a kiyah or other similar religious headgear, be it a Jewish skull cap or sikh turban.
