Osun School Uniform Crisis: Religious Battle Enters Physical, Spiritual Realm by Giyerte(m): 4:20am On Jun 16, 2016
O sogbo—The face-off between Christian and Muslim leaders degenerated, yesterday, but the timely intervention of Oluwo of Iwoland, Oba Adewale Akanbi, saved what could have snowballed into major religious crisis as some Christian students of Baptist High School, Adeeke, Iwo for the second day appeared in church robes to attend classes for the day.

In defiance to Governor Rauf Aregbesola’s warning on Tuesday that any student found disobeying school rules and regulations risk expulsion, some students who arrived the school for the day’s lessons in church robes were turned back by security men manning the gate who however allowed female Muslim students who wore hijab as a complement to their uniforms into the school premises.

However, some Christian leaders who initially kept a safe distance watching the unfolding event at this point moved to the gate to ensure that their children also gained access to the school premises.
The Christians eventually gained access into the premises. Muslim leaders who were around the school premises also moved to the gate and a face-off ensued between the two groups.

It was gathered that the paramount ruler of the town, Oba Akanbi, stepped in by personally visiting the school to douse the tension by inviting both the Christian and Muslim leaders to his palace for a meeting.
The battle after a while, turned spiritual as Christians in the state, yesterday, organised an interdenominational prayer where they offered prayers to God to intervene on the issue of hijab and the court ruling.

The prayer rally which was attended by over 200 pastors and thousands of Christian faithful across all denominations in the 30 Local Government Areas of the State including Ife East Area Office was held at Dominion Hall of Osun Baptist Conference, Gbodofon, Osogbo .

The prayer called by the State CAN Chairman, Reverend Dr. Elisha Ogundiya and led by his Vice, Pastor Moses Adedeji Ogundeji, was meant to reject the court ruling on hijab and other alleged islamisation plot by the state government.

Dr Ogundiya told Vanguard that the prayer was also meant to seek for peace from God and to "nullify anti-Kingdom laws and dealings with satanic forces that are tormenting the state for the past few weeks".
Meanwhile, Baptist High School, Iwo where students went to school, yesterday, with various choir and church apparels as well as hijab was condoned-off by the police after it was shut by the state government, as the Christian and Muslim leaders held meetings with the Iwo monarch, Oba Abdulrasheed Adewale Akanbi to find solution to the impasse.

CAN condemns hijab ruling in Osun state
Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, yesterday, expressed disappointment over recent High Court judgment in Osun State on the use of hijab in all schools including missionary schools, describing the development as unfortunate which may send a wrong signal that Osun State Government is clearly favouring one religion over the other.

The meeting which was well attended, had in attendance the National Officers of the Association, all the five Heads of books, the zonal chairmen, the states chairmen and delegates representing the five blocs of the association; Catholic Secretariat of Nigeria (CSN), Christian Council of Nigeria (CCN) Christian Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria/ Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (CPFN/PFN), TEKAN/ECWA, and Organisation of African Instituted Churches

Well, you are right. What was he thinking when he merged those schools? What kind of senseless policy is that? Just like a governor in the north merging an almajiri school and a seminary school citing some senseless education policy. What exactly was he trying to achieve? Basically, he should have provided the schools with their basics, promply pay their teachers and probably give free education if he actually wanted to lift education in the state. Here below is link to a 2013 thread where today's scenario was predicted, but alas, the stuborn jihadist went ahead to bring fanaticism into the students curriculum in Osun.

Let females muslim student cover their head with beret in Christian schools and use hijab in Muslim, Community and Government owned schools might bring peace. All I want is peace.
Re: Osun School Uniform Crisis: Religious Battle Enters Physical, Spiritual Realm by Nobody: 5:33am On Jun 16, 2016
How do you give authority for hijab in a baptist and missionary schoo?

What if a christian female wears church robe to Nasfat or a known muslim school..

That governor is visibly stupid and lack initiative.

You let sleeping dogs lie.

To d muslims in Osun, u dont have any issue with anybody. The fight is between CAN and the govt. There's no reason to involve yourselves in a faceoff as far as dem no remove d hijab from ur head.
D xtians can wear whatever they like, they can walk bare footed sef.
CAN should take their case to the court because i dont understand their grieviance.

Most senseless governor i ever knew.

Religion issue should be the last thing in the mind of a vibrant leader. What shall it profit the state or Aregbesola to forcefully introduce a particular mode of dressing in our educational system.

Think of this:

Would Nigerian Muslims allow a situation presently in Nigeria where:

The president is a Muslim,

The head of senate is a Muslim

The head of house of Reps is a Muslim

The head of judiciary is a Muslim

The head of the ruling party is a Muslim?

It is this impunity that is playing out in Osun State. Islamization of Nigeria is no more a hidden agenda

In Sokoto where I am serving, in all govt school, all student both christian and Muslims must and I repeat must wear Hijab, not just short hijab but the very very long one. My question is, since Nigeria is a secular state, y is Sokoto state govt forcing all student in respective of ur religion and belief to wear hijab. U need to see christian girls in that thing, they dont feel comfortable in it but they hav no choice.

I think things should be seen in proper perspective. The bigotory mind would say what is the big deal about approving hijab in such school?

One, the School was established by missionaries in the early 20th century. The early christians in Iwo who were the founding fathers contributed to nurture the school until govt took it over.

Two, the school belongs to government like govt will always say since it has been taken over. However the many facilities on the rot in all the schools due to negligence in maintanance in the school taken over is a testimony to the cluenessless of the successive govt.

Three, in reality, would Oyinlola approve building of chapel in any AUD school because it is now a govt school? I doubt.

The pains of the local proprietor of Baptist High school Iwo seems to be how can this be.

Four, why can't they appeal the judgement? Any trust in the judiciary?

Way out

let them dialogue

Honestly this man is a curse to that state. Haba!!! In the 90s we all went to school all wearing at most school beret, schooled and played together without knowing one is a Muslim or Christian except on Fridays after school when leaving for Jumat. This is the least concern for any state as it does not add or remove from your spiritual life. And to make matters worse there are diverse schools. Must a Muslim who wants to wear hijab attend a Baptist high school? What is wrong in going to a Ahmad/Muslim inclined schools which are also every where in town. Must one religion be imposed on the other? How would the Muslim leaders feel if a Christian student dresses up in her religious attire in one of their schools?
It is a great shame on this leaders.
The greatest rule in life after love is treat others as you would want to be treated.
A religion of acclaimed peace should at least follow peace with others.
May God in his infinite mercies deliver Osun State. Amen

The fanatic Gov just ignited a religious fire in SW that may never be quenched again with his short sighted policy.

People warned him when he started merging schools, using Govt money to sew hijab, as if it is only one faith that is paying tax.

If one religious dressing or amendment to uniform is allowed for one faith, it must be allowed for all faiths because they are all all payers, they have their own religious obligations to be met too, the constitution guarantees their right too and the right of a faith does not supersedes others.

Why on earth will the Ayatollah Gov threaten children with expulsion if they dare to dress in accordance with their faiths to school, when it is their fundamental human right a entrenched in the constitution? Or it is only one faith that has a right and others do not and must not.

Aregbe is a curse to Osun State, the financially reckless man is a greater curse to yorubaland.

PMB should declare a State of Emergency in Osun State asap, to prevent this crisis from snow balling into the whole region and which can consume this country.
