Akwa Ibom State Government has debunked rumours of pipeline bombing in Ikot Osute, Oruk Anam local government area, even as it calls for calm among citizens who may have been troubled by the purported development. Reacting to the rumours after a visit to the site, the Commissioner for Information and Communications, Mr. Aniekan Umanah stated that "there is no iota of truth in the claims making rounds in the social media", stating that what happened was an eruption occasioned by leakage in the old pipeline of the Nigerian Gas Company, NGC, which traversed the area. He further emphasised that "no pipeline has been bombed in Akwa Ibom State" adding that "those peddling such rumours are ignorant of the true situation in the affected area." According to the Commissioner, "as at Thursday morning, when security operatives and officials of the State government visited Ikot Osute, the state Ministry of Environment, NGC personnel and other gas companies operating the area were on site, working round the clock to ensure safety in the area." Mr. Umanah enjoined Akwa Ibom people and indeed Nigerians to remain calm and go about their businesses as government was committed to protecting lives and property of all citizens in the State. He assured that security agents have cordoned off the area to forestall against any eventuality Idris Mabadeje Information Officer 16/06/16 PHOTO DESCRIPTION: --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Site of the pipeline leakage which caused accidental eruption at Ikot Osute in Oruk Anam LGA, Akwa Ibom state --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- SOURCE: www.wetinhappen.com.ng

From fake missiles to fake bombs. Hardly surprising when Aba boys are now getting involved in militancy. The silly scamVengers are probably realizing the foolishness of destroying their lives and livelihood in order to hurt distant Nigerians, and have new resorted to lies and media falsehood/propaganda to stop stupidly cutting their nose to spite their face. This pipeline does not look what any Ijaw/Ibo terrorist attacked. As far as we are concerned, they should keep blowing the region back to the dark ages for all anyone cares. 4 Likes

QuotaSystem:The militants are probably running out of grenades and money. Terrorism is one different thing while funds/men/materials to carryout the act of terror is also another different thing entirely. The terrorists probably realized that they can't bring the country's oil production to zero BPD as they have constantly threatened, the deep underwater pipelines can't be blown easily by the terrorists which by the way are were most of Nigeria crude oil runs through. To destroy offshore pipelines is almost impossible for the cowardly terrorists. So I think the militants have decided to spread silly propagandas just to save their faces, and to also give some ignorant persons the impression that they{militants} are super mighty. That minister of petroleum for state that is trying to initiate some foolish dialogue with the "midnight pipelines blowers" should be relief of his duty in my opinion. His silly actions are portraying the center government as a weak one that is outrightly incompetent, and also as a government that can't protect its citizens and its properties. 3 Likes 1 Share |

fiizznation: I completely agree with the last part regarding Kachikwu. Given the benefit of doubt, most likely the government wants to be seen to be exhausting all diplomatic channels, so any military intervention will be justified regardless of the severity. 1 Like |

They can't bomb any major pipeline line outside bayelsa and Delta . .. Why?? Because tompolo don't have the network map The without the map handed to u, no man can pin point a major pipeline in the network . Pipeline can pass ur village but to know which is which and we're each leads and the blow the major ones like the NDA have done requires someone with the map But what was Jonathan thinking when he handed our pipeline network map to a criminal?? ? Someone check our certificate of independence please... That's man was a disgrace to educated people 2 Likes |

You are saying your region has not been developed with oil money and yet you're asking for charges against those who stole the oil money meant for developing your region to be dropped 3 Likes 1 Share |
