Fayose Begged Zenith Bank To Save Him From EFCC by Xclusivegrin007(m): 6:57pm On Jun 23, 2016 |
– Zenith Bank sources disclose to Sahara Reporters how Governor Fayose ran to beg the management of the bank to save him when EFCC was closing in on him – Fayose claims Zenith bank financed his election but he bank denies this claim – The bank says it handled money from the office of the National Security Adviser Fresh details have emerged on how embattled Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti state, allegedly begged Zenith Bank Plc to save him when he discovered that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) was closing in on him. According to a report on Sahara Reporters, sources at Zenith bank denied financing the election of Fayose as the governor had earlier claimed. The bank however admitted it handled money from the office of the National Security Adviser. It was gathered that Governor Fayose had last week rushed to Zenith bank to beg its management not to share his bank documents with the EFCC, telling that bank to say that the constitutional immunity he enjoys prevents the bank from doing so. The report on Sahara Reporters also revealed that Fayose pleaded that Zenith bank should claim to have funded his campaign, but bank officials declined, saying it had already given its word to the EFCC to hand over his bank documents. The bank’s decision comes on the heels of its support to President Muhamamdu Buhari over his determination to recover stolen funds and also the fact that the bank’s former managing director, Godwin Emefiele, is now the Central Bank of Nigeria Governor. But according to Sahara Reporters’ sources, Fayose wasn’t taking no for an answer as the governor returned to beg the bank again to help perfect documents for one of the accounts used for the N4.7billion, but the bank refused a second time. In anger, it was gathered that Fayose threatened that he will take the bank down with him. The Zenith bank sources added that if Fayose got support any financial support from the bank, it could never have exceeded N50million as donation. According to them, the bank did not consider funding a campaign as one of its duties and was not even sure if he could win. The source told Sahara Reporters that they were surprised at the amount of money meant for him during and after Fayose’s campaign. However, the bank sources were not sure whether or not the bank filed suspicious transaction reports, given that some of the funds were never entered into the bank database. The EFCC, on Monday, June 20, froze two personal accounts of the governor and one belonging to his company, Spotless Investments, in the course of its investigations into N4.7billion Fayose allegedly received from the Office of the National Security Adviser during his election campaign in 2014. Fayose has since denied receiving any money, claiming it was Zenith Bank that majorly funded his campaign.
