There are those of us who are particularly intellectual in worldview and vision and are often quick to say, and believe, that the proper study and knowledge of history is essential for the future. This outlook is fundamentally quipped as "those who forget the past are bound to repeat it". Yet there are also those of us who are fundamentally mystical in outlook, with no aversion to our intellectual faculties, and are often reminded by the causal and cyclical nature of life that nothing is ever new and that all that is are mere reverberations of timeless phenomena. Those of us in this category believe that history is caused to repeat itself with or without Man's actions and inactions. Those in this category are often quick to cite the repetitive and evolutionary nature of humanity's deeds and aspirations and sum them up to modern manifestations of established past!
How then do we reconcile the intellectual and the mystical? The true importance of the past and its place in our continual evolution and growth? The answer to this defies logic and reasoning and calls upon innate human intuition. If the true knowledge of the past is enough to change man and his future, then the world wars wouldn't have occurred as man was knowledgeable enough about earlier wars and their devastating effects at that point. In a more relatable and contemporary view, many of those agitating for war, even in Nigeria, would have known from history that war is unkind to all and ends up achieving nothing but loss, pain and bitterness and even in victory, the losses would be too much for celebration.
From the argument I have posed above, it is apt to say that humans do not learn from history and thus history plays no role in our collective future as humans are bound to repeat same mistakes over and over again. However, the mystical mind knows that while history is not a major determiner in our growth, it sure prepares Man's psyche to deal with inevitable situations and events. Man can only hope for the best and by the constant application of the mind to good, build a better life for himself! This is the ideal state that determines Man's future; his state of mind and purity of thoughts! Peace is not an intellectual concept and war defies all logic!

I love this beauty. I honestly and wholeheartedly support your philosophy but personally I think war is paramount to human growth. It might sound cruel to the lives lost and properties destroyed but nonetheless nature just plays us out by putting war as an inevitable challenge.

Nice thought there. War is inevitable but if we know its catastrophic effects, why go to war when there are better alternatives?

As you said, nature just plays out itself but then what does "nature" hope to gain or to make us gain by causing us to repeat the same circle over and over again?
