eleko1: While I am no fan of his shoelessness.....the fact is that Nigeria's electricity power supply problems are far more serious than anyone realises. GEJ privatised power because he knew that govt could not find $1bn annually to fix power . And that is just an estimate. And the DISCOS and GENCOS cannot perform because revenue from bills is very very low (And THEY cannot get loans from the banks because banks don't want to give them loans). All in all.....it is going to take a loooong time to fix the power supply of Nigeria. |

Quakertellicus1: The present DISCOs and GENCOs have no business being in the Nigeria industry. Are the GENCOs not supposed to build more generation capacity? and the DISCOs were also expected to invest and take care of the distribution aspect, instead they have been managing just the infrastructure they inherited through their purchase agreement. The DISCOs are still operating like NEPA/PHCN issuing estimated bills and still expecting consumers to provide transformers for them. Is that not criminal? If I had been involved in drafting those sale agreements, I would have inserted a clause(s) that would have invalidated the agreement if any of the NEPA/PHCN characteristics experienced after 3years of their operation. When a Nigerian sits somewhere doing nothing and his income is guaranteed, do you think he will make any effort to improve his service(s). |
