Majority of them will head back home looking for job that's not there. I pity the world we live in. So much for academics in a declining real sector economy

They won't! They are specialists medical practitioners always in demand over there. Do average Nigerians visits Dentists?

Doctor of pharmacy, you can imagine?
While we're still awarding the archaic bachelor of pharmacy certificate in Nigeria?
What a retrogressive and primitive Nation...
The bunch of inferior and unsecured Doctors feel it's an action solely aimed at usurping their roles.
They have no Modicum of idea what it entails..

As a Pharmacist with a Doctor of Pharmacy degree, having practiced for 7 years in Nigeria, I would advise these my new colleagues to stay back and work there in the USA, because pharmacy practice in Nigeria is still so under-developed and the monthly pay in Nigeria is 1/20 of what a new Pharmacist in the USA would earn monthly (working with the current exchange rate).

I might accede with the fact you like microbiology, but asserting that you prefer it to pharmacy is nothing but being mendacious.
I bet you'll jump at the offer without thinking twice.. grin grin grin
And pls??Where do they work self gan?
probably as an auxiliary factory workers in pharmaceutical industry.
Forgive my probable myopia,,but that's my notion.

it's the same thing, they just call it something different over there to make them feel better because in the states you have to do a degree (in any subject) before you can enroll for a the same pharmacy degree we call a B.Pharm here and every where else in the world. Just like at one time you had to have a degree in any subject before you could study Law in the UK. i guess they call them doctor to make them feel better because after 8 years they all end up in a back room in a pharmacy store.

it may be callted D.Pharm but it's a bachelors degree

Pharm D had been in existence for ages, probably since the 1970's
It involves more of clinical,Even an underdeveloped country like Benin republic awards Pharm D,so what's stopping Nigerian from doing the same.
undecided undecided

idiotic writeup. I know it will turn to pharmacists vs others bashing thread. Do you have what it takes to become a pharmacist?

There is no way this can translate to the development of Nigeria with the type of Leaders we have. our leaders are dullards so they are not interested in utilizing intelligent Nigerians. undecided

Does possessing a PhD now translates to possessing intelligence

Stop equating intelligence solely with a possession of degrees. This is what pushes people to go to school for all the wrong reasons (including cheating just to at least be named a graduate even if they have nothing upstairs to show for it).

Sure grin But then after you graduate and you are faced with reality in Nigeria then you realize there is virtually very limited place you can practice your profession and the pay is meager and then you also need to get a MSc and probably a PhD for your microbiology degree to make sense. And the end the easiest way out is lecturing.
