Carl Marx one of the greatest thinkers of all time, a political theorist and the father of socialism. one of the world's most influential men of all time have these thought about religion

Man makes religion, religion does not make man. Religion is, indeed, the self-consciousness and self-esteem of man who has either not yet won through to himself, or has already lost himself again. But man is no abstract being squatting outside the world. Man is the world of man – state, society. This state and this society produce religion, which is an inverted consciousness of the world, because they are an inverted world. Religion is the general theory of this world, its encyclopaedic compendium, its logic in popular form, its spiritual point d’honneur, its enthusiasm, its moral sanction, its solemn complement, and its universal basis of consolation and justification. It is the fantastic realization of the human essence since the human essence has not acquired any true reality. The struggle against religion is, therefore, indirectly the struggle against that world whose spiritual aroma is religion.

Religious suffering is, at one and the same time, the expression of real suffering and a protest against real suffering. Religion is the sigh of the oppressed creature, the heart of a heartless world, and the soul of soulless conditions. It is the opium of the people.

The abolition of religion as the illusory happiness of the people is the demand for their real happiness. To call on them to give up their illusions about their condition is to call on them to give up a condition that requires illusions. The criticism of religion is, therefore, in embryo, the criticism of that vale of tears of which religion is the halo.

NL what do you make of this thought-provoking philosophy-laden reflections of this great thinker.
well for me here is my favorite pick up line which I think summarizes the way we are conditioned in Africa

"To call on them to give up their illusions about their condition is to call on them to give up a condition that requires illusions".

pips what do you think?

He was also one of the founders of "the religion of reason" in partnership with his freemason partners.

We all know how socialism was just another form of usury of the masses by afew.

He becomes a fool just because he made a statement which negates your belief?

What Carl Marx didn't say is that Religion proved a more enduring Alternative to his theories. Religion also proved his existence, life and why the Spirits hold us here and not there with them. Carl Marx, like Socratis hadn't the opportunity to read very well, like we do now, the Books of Genesis, Daniel, Hebrews and Revelation. This is the clear difference between us and those ancient Philosophers.

Religion is a criticism of the human condition, of suffering. It's the natural outcome of incautiously contemplating why we're here, and why it is we suffer, hence the reason he reffered to it as a "justification". It offers an other-worldly alternative, a better picture, to our current lives. For many, it's a source of hope and the promise of righted wrongs, of justice, of good things to come (but only after we leave this world, after our death, yet another indication of it being an inherent criticism of this world, of life), hence the reason he called it a "consolation". An illusion.

Marx also popularly reffered to it as, "the opiate of the masses". Opium has plenty of negative connotations; harm, addiction, early death and disfigurement, but it was also a cheap medicine in his time, known for giving the user an overwhelming euphoria, a feeling of temporary pain relief from all ailment. Were I to suffer pain or loss and thus lose myself in a bottle of wine, it wouldn't answer or solve what drove me to drink, but it might, nonetheless, offer some respite and relief. In other words it, religion, faith, doesn't solve the deeper issues, but acts as a superficial salve to man. Lenin called it "spiritual booze".

They're still commies, tho grin
