This place reminds me of a similar man-made lake on the outskirts of Minna, the home town of former President Babangida. The unique thing about the lake near Minna, is that it is home to HUNDREDS of crocodiles, that can be seen relaxing in groups on the waters edge, and cruising the lake in huge flotillas of the scaly beasts. I have never seen or even heard of such a crocodile sanctuary anywhere else in Nigeria, and the existence of that huge population must be due to a total hunting ban in that area, at least for crocodiles. One thing is for sure, and that is that anyone who dares swim in that Minna lake, will be consumed by MANY large crocodiles, that would all converge within seconds from the instant anyone sets foot in that lake.

During rainy season when the dam is "full" that circle that appears like a funnel receives the "excess" water; lovely experience especially when you hear the sound of rushing water but it can also be scary. I remember my first time inside that small building. By the way, that small building used to serve as a rendezvous for lovers back in the day; the inner walls are filled with various inscriptions, mostly names of visitors. You may hit me up OP anytime you're not busy and have time to 'burn'. I'm in Samaru. ***MODIFIED*** True eh! This post is over a year but it just made FP; Wow! What's gonna be is gonna be... |

babyfaceafrica: It's for water supply. ABU has a municipal water treatment plant near the dam which treats the water and supplies hostels, academic area and the various staff quarters. Electricity generation is not even one of the commonest uses of dams. Irrigation and water supply come top. 1 Like |

Electricity generation is just one of the many uses dams are put to use. Storage of water for dry season use, collection of excess rain waters to prevent floods. The use of a damaged for electricity generation however requires more technical features for that to be achieved. Features such as the dam being on a fast flowing but steep river or water path helps in creating the force that turns the turbine fast enough for power to be released. babyfaceafrica: |

babyfaceafrica:d dam is not a gated dam with outflow ,so it is not a hydroelectric dam,it purpose is to channel water from surrounding drains,run-off to b harness for portable water & irrigation water for ABU Population uses. |
