The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, has expressed optimism that skirmishes in state chapters of the party will end soon.
Odigie-Oyegun said this in an interview with The PUNCH in Abuja on Tuesday.
As of the last count, there were crisis in the APC in Kano, Bayelsa and Kogi states.
The national chairman stated, “We are attending to each and every one of them. In virtually every case, we are making progress.
“Take the case of Bayelsa State for example, we should conclude the matter within a few weeks. That of Kano is basically a personality thing and we’ve got those involved to come together and allow peace to reign in the interest of the party and the nation.
“And we are also attending to the issues in Kogi State. You will agree with me that some of these issues are as a result of the fact that we are the party in power; if we are in the opposition, there probably won’t be these skirmishes.”
He explained that some of those involved in the skirmishes were those who were still struggling for relative importance in order to position themselves for positions in the future.
Odigie-Oyegun added the APC had developed a mechanism of democratic consultation and reconciliation, saying these had been working for the party.
On the ongoing trial of the Senate President Bukola Saraki, the APC national chairman said Saraki was a member of the party even though the party showed a preference for another person as the President of the Senate.
He, however, said what the APC had found difficult to come to terms with was the emergence of an opposition senator, Ike Ekweremadu, as the Deputy President of the Senate.
