Guaranty Trust Bank has being the pioneer of SMS banking which you can open an account, check account balance, transfer funds by just dialing *737#. Therefore, you do not need an internet connection to be able to bank on the go.

Unon Bank PLC is following suit with their latest introduction of SMS banking, into their banking system. However, unlike the GTB style of SMS banking, Union Bank has just one feature enabled in its SMS banking; which is the ''Check your balance''. According to them, other features like transfer funds, view transaction history, etc will be introduced with time.

For now, you can use your mobile phone to check your account balance on your Union bank account, without using the internet by just texting ''Bal'' to 20123

For me, this is a great achievement from the bank, they are making it easy for people to bank on the go instead of going to the bank.

good feature, but they should make transaction processes more secure, not that someone could use someone's else card once he has access to the phone and the card number as in the case of Gtbank where security of the account can easily be compromised.
