Ok so what does an Attack helicopter do that a dedicated AH doesn't do...... Once you've answered that I have one more question wink

Dedicated attack helicopter have more survivability , their probability to accomplish a given combat mission with required survivability , payload load , stealth etc is more vis a vis a attack helicopter.

Seriously ?
why argue for arguments sake bro ?

I contested armed utility helicopter classification of urs

this is an example of armed utility helicopter

An utility helicopter which has add on / off weapons modules is a armed utility helicopter. It is not meant for attack roles in highly defended zones rather as a self defensive role during landings etc

Ok so the Rudra's weapons can't be taken off?

Edit: Actually I'm making a u turn on my argument, after doing a bit more research I have actually read the Rudra was specifically developed as an Attack helicopter, that was based of the HAL Dhruv, it has Flir,Thermal Imaging Sights Interface and a chin mounted Gun..........

However I would like to highlight the bolded to Kabe2 who thinks bolting rocket pods onto an A109 makes it an AH!

Yes more or less, but obviously there will be more advantages with dedicated attack helicopters , dedicated attack helicopters r generally the first choice.

Argument u making is same as why USA uses f16 when more better f22 is available for a mission.

Dang it why can't the weapons be removed , how will u reload otherwise

What can't be removed is the fixed weapons pylons at either side and the turret , will need to visit MRO facilities. There are lot of subsystem in support of missile launch , FCS installed inside , to remove them you need to visit MRO.

Roles cannot be swapped between combat and utility in rudra . It is not intended to either by designer or user .

as I said, I was wrong to say the Rudra was simply an armed utility helicopter!! I glanced at the pic and didn't notice the gun or the missiles wink

Me saying the Rudra isn't an AH is totally contradicting my argument that the MD 530 is an Attack helicopter!!

I saw Kabe2s mention and jumped in to the argument without actually doing research or even looking at the pic of the Rudra properly.

Honestly thought it only had rocked pods, and totally missed the chin mounted gun, Flir, sight and missiles!!

Rudra is a specifically factory modified ALH for armed role. It is heavily modified / redesigned ( system level ) to support armed roles. It is assigned to army and Air force ORBATs specifically and purposefully for anti air and counter surface force operations only.

It is not meant for utility roles at all.

DEAD, CSFO, SHBO , CSAR, Anti armour, Electronic warfare, Scout,Armed reconnaissance and surveillance, Anti UAV role etc is not utility roles . All these r dedicated combat missions which only helicopters which r certified , mission equipped and capable to execute r designated to do so.

It can be reconfigured for various combat roles but it cannot be reconfigured to utility roles.

So it is can't be classified as a armed utility helicopter. Its role as per OEM and end user is strictly for combat roles.

ALH is a utility helicopter. It is assigned to logistics units of army and airforce. And ALH can also be armed with HMGs / MMGs / rocket pods ( tender out ) but then it will not be a attack helicopter like Rudra rather it will be what u called as a armed utility helicopter.

Always told jln the fanaticism he has for classifying military hardware is juvenile and impractical and ends up clogging his mind.

X band TRM ( transmit recieve module ) used in RISAT 2A spy satellite

C band TRM ( transmit recieve module ) used in RISAT 1A spy satellite

Interestingly X band TRMs are used in fire control radars for higher accuracy compared to other bands.
