Lot of work going on in HPM and laser based direct energy weapon systems

Including HPM weapon systems to target satellites

And also laser (COIL) DEW onboard aircraft

Also they are working on a nuclear powered engine for ground vehicle application, could be for the HPM systems and EM railguns

Just yesterday I was talking about drdo HPM

and today info came out regarding DRDO 1 GW HPM directed energy weapon system

As far as i know based on public info only US , Soviet had ground based HPM systems of 1 GW or more

DRDO also seems to be accelerating work on its EM railgun

What's important to note is "extreme long range targeting accuracy" which will be required as drdo EM railgun is expected to have ranges greater than 400km initially

If they have something like the Tapas and Rustom drone, can't they just wait for it to enter mass production rather than squander 3 billion dollars on 12 units of MQ-9 Reaper drones, one of which was unforgettably downed by the "fuel dump" of a Su-27.
Then in place of their indigenous drones commissioned into service they can operate any available aircraft for reconnaissance.
3 billion dollars can get them 24 Rafale aircrafts.

Personally don't like deals with US for obvious reasons
