Bayelsans, particularly primary school teachers and staff of Southern Ijaw Education Authority converged at the premises of UBA PLC to be verified and get paid of their January salary. It came as a relief to some and equally compounded the woes of others, due to the government's decision not to pay all those who were employed from 2008. While some waited under the hot sun to get verified, others went home dijected and disappointed. It could be recalled the Bayelsa State government is owing workers six months salaries, while some LGAs are owing up to 11 months salaries. Although some have been paid January salary, others are yet to get theirs. The government put the blame on dwindling revenue accrued to the state, hence his decision to pay 50% salaries starting from February pending when the economy improves.
