THE Rivers State chapter of the All Progressives Congress has condemned the approval of N9bn loan for Governor Nyesom Wike by the state House of Assembly.


The party, which described the loan as unconscionable and wicked, alleged that the state government planned to use it for the July 30, 2016, rerun election in the state.


The state APC Chairman, Chief Davies Ikanya, made this known in a statement, on Tuesday.
According to Ikanya, the action is a sign of desperation by the governor ahead of the forthcoming election.
Ikanya said, “The APC is convinced that just like the governor committed Rivers people to a N10bn loan to host and write-off the failed PDP national convention in Port Harcourt last May, he is, this time, borrowing N9bn to prosecute the forthcoming July 30 rerun election in the state as announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission.”


“The governor is obviously frightened by the prospect of his candidates losing in the forthcoming elections, especially in the Rivers South-East axis where his morbid fear for the popularity of Senator Magnus Abe has become unbearable for him.”
Reacting, the state Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party, Mr. Samuel Nwanosike, described the claim by the APC as false.

Firstly how do you know rivers borrowed 60b in 1yr?, 2ndly rivers has d 2nd highest IGR so servicing won't be a problem thirdly all the loans the former administration collected, whose servicing them now isn't it wike's govt?

What is good for the goose is good for the gander, that is the popular saying. However, let Wike apply the loan judiciously. Let it impact on the people. He should not apply it to buy guns nor fund militants. I dont even know why Rivers state cannot list its bonds on the stock market. Stories I am reading in the media indicate that Rivers State through Wike is seriously exposed to bank facilities.

WikeD has borrowed a total of N126 billion in 14 months. The former governor wanted to borrow just N100billion. It was rejected. So who is better. I hope CBN is watching. None of these exposure is listed!

He is owing 3 months salaries of civil Servants, 5months of teachers salaries and 10 months of pension - So what he did initially was just a fluke. I was fortunate to be in Port Harcourt early this year. The Pilot of the Airport Taxi I boarded, who incidentally was a Pensioner was very sympathetic to the cause of Wike because he cleared all the arrears owed by the last administration. So it was just a flash in pan to win votes? Diaris God oooooooooooo

U are wrong. The thug has borrowed close to 130 billion naira so far. Yet little or nothing to showcase except one or two open gutter roads that a fast becoming a nightmare.

He should carry on in his borrowing?Drop party affiliations! The question is how much has he borrowed since he resumed office? What has he done with them? Why always borrowing when it is close to a major party event or electorial exercise and not another time? He should learn to be a good manager and not a borrower. He that goes borrowing will end up sorrowing!

Am surprised the way some people argue about stuffs like this,borrowing is point blank BAD.....its a known fact that the governor has borrowed over 100billion since May29th Abeg make una help ask the pro-wike supporters wetin happen to the 30billion he borrowed earlier to do the onne road,that road is terrible and yet some people say he should keep borrowing,our debt is managed by Debt management Office (DMO) and deductions are made from source so if he keeps borrowing our month allocation would keep reducing.
