Ibadan—Oyo State Governor, Senator Abiola Ajimobi, yesterday gave insight into why the North is against the clamour for the restructuring of Nigeria’s politics system. restructuring Ajimobi, at the third annual lecture of Dauda Adegbenro Foundation, in Ibadan, said the North opposed the agitation because it wanted the status quo of which it is a great beneficiary, sustained.

The theme of the lecture is: “Transparency in the Extractive Industries: Driving wealth creation and sustainable revenue as solution to economic recession.”

The governor, represented by his Chief of Staff, Dr. Gbade Ojo, said there were many things wrong with the present Nigeria’s political system that restructuring would put right.

According to him, the nation’s present political system has robbed states of revenues and unless there is a reform, the second tier of government will continue to depend on handouts from the federation account.

He added that without a constitution amendment or restructuring, the state’s would remain parasites. He said amending the constitution would make states get involved in the extractive industries and boost their revenues.

He also said Nigerians must decide on the type of federalism they want to practice as no two federalism are the same.

In his lead paper at the lecture, Executive Secretary, NEITI, Mr. Waziri Adio, listed areas Nigeria should focus on to drive sustainable growth and development on the extractive industries and in Nigeria.

the north is blessed when it comes to agriculture but pure greed and laziness with an ever increasing population has been its albatross

restructuring is the only way but the national assembly who is tasked with it would do nothing about it

This talk on the so called "restructuring" is getting boring and lacking in tact and direction like the IPOB struggle.
If you want something sit down and arrange it, find a way to do so and set the ball rolling.
Someone will be calling for 2014 Confab recommendations, among which is create new stares to make them 50.
Confusion everywhere, but instead they like to blackmail the north as the scape goat.

Honestly, I wonder why anybody will be against restructuring......Every state in Nigeria is blessed with at least two natural resources...can't we take advantage of what we have and develop our own state by our selves

Its getting clearer by the day..

Nigeria as a country can never be sustained with this our pseudo - federalism..

The South West has always remained the nucleus of our democracy.

The fooling around is over!

Why do the north have cold feet over restructuring? Because the average northerner is an analog lazy fellow who enjoys squandering easy gotten wealth without putting in commensurate effort.

Nothing sweets northerners, like free wealth and that is why they threatened by the noise about restructuring, but the mofos do not know that in the long run they stand to gain more in restructuring. Outside oil, northern Nigeria has the best extractive minerals which can be a source of steady income for them

Coming from a parasitic failure. The problem with nigerians is dat the elite/rulers know we are dumb so they keep fooling us. The 2019 election gimmick and promise wud be restructuring. Bt if it happens only the rulers go enjoy am. E.g in Lagos Tinubu grew the IGR in lagos but he set up alpha beta to do d collection. Alpha beta still collects 10-15% of lagos IGR. Dont be fooled. What we need is revolution

Many of us already know this which is the reason we have various secessionist groups in the land today.

Obviously the status quo of greed ,wickedness and avarice cannot be allowed to continue.

The belief that one region is more important to others is a dream that must be laid to rest permanently.

It's just painful that we share d same country with some backward people. Restructuring will allow some governors to sit tight and know what they r doing.

On d other hand, if matters of this country wants to b discussed it shouldn't b from a nincompoop like ajimobi because it's governors like him that'll abuse and mismanage funds derived by d state
