I can't say Nigeria is the most corrupt nation but corruption in Nigeria is such that I've never seen or heard about any other country. Nigeria takes it all: Bribery, stealing, looting, nepotism, misappropriation - name it - and I don't see any country doing it better than we are, but I may be inclined to think there's at least one country worse than Nigeria in terms of corruption.

Well, I may slightly agree with some people who share the sentiment that America and Britain are both corrupt but don't you think if they were, these countries won't have had or achieved what they have today? There's a capable welfare for citizens, residents and immigrants in these countries so I don't see their corruption having any visible effect on any of their systems; it's only human that you take advantage of anyone who's weak. If the West has perceived Africa, Nigeria in this context, to be corrupt, they may as well have thought they could gain from our foolishness, after all, it's not their fault that we have chosen to be corruptly foolish.

Nigeria can be said to top the list of corrupt nations because our leaders have proven several times they aren't bothered with what views the world has of them. It's only in Nigeria that billions of Naira are found missing everyday. It's only in Nigeria that unnecessary allowances are given to political officers; it's only in Nigeria that leaders will loot money, found guilty and nothing will be done about it; it's only in Nigeria that there's no justice and no human rights whatsoever; only in Nigeria will you find all sorts of financial mismanagement at all levels - from sports to finances - and no questions will be asked about it.

I don't know of the corruption level of all countries in the world, and I can't say whether or not there's a more corrupt country in the world than Nigeria but Nigeria's corruption exceeds all bounds of measure to putting it in check. Let's just say corruption is a 'normal' practice in Nigeria.

A-Town, please desist from cussing on the thread. You've proven so much intelligence on the education section, why acting funny here? Take it easy abeg!

@ A-town Let me tell you where you goofed: Any system that encourages you to live over and beyond your means is corrupt. We are seeing the result with the total economic meltdown. Almost everybody is owing minimum of 10k in credit card bills. Not very many can pay mortgages. Cars are being reposesed on a daily basis. How can somebody who earns 25k annually be allowed to buy a house of 1 million? living above your means is corruption. How can a system discourage savings; you are taxed heavily if you leave money too long in your account. If you have a debit card you must use it constantly or charges will be deducted from your account. What kind of system will allow you to market false products on tv. No matter good the marketing is, it is still wrong. I hope you are not allowing the american way of life cloud your logic. It is sweet, but not that sweet for me not to see the vices here. The reason you are myopic in your views is that as a nigerian your understanding of corruption is ghana must go bags, election rigging and policemen standing in broad daylight to collect bribe. Like i said before ours is too brazen and crude. Theirs is more sophisticated. There is no country without sin. Sure it is better than naija when it comes to administration, policing and amenities and i wouldn't want to go back anytime soon, but still they have their issues as well. Also like i stated before, i do not care how corrupt other countries are but that my country is and it must stop.

Chei. I wish Theseeker had not said what he said oooo. I am itching to curse you like shege but i wont (just for today) because he has politely asked me to. Okay, back to your post:

Are you one of those who got "had" by the system. You seem to be venting unnecessarily. How do you call something like a mortgage and credit card corruption. You are a grown ass man. If you can not read the fine print, that is your problem. If you do not know when to stop swiping your credit card, that is your problem. Your are just being sentimental. You are taking away from the topic. This is just a personal vendetta you have against the system. Your post has nothing to do with what we are talking about.
The fact that you cant save is your own problem.
My first year out of college, i saved a minimum of $25,000 so what the f are you talking about. This is after removing apt fees, cable, insurance and all the likes.
What bank do you use? Did you read the fineprint when you accepted the debit card. I have a debit card that i have been using for over a 8yrs. I stopped using it 4yrs ago. I have never been charged. I still have money in the account and they keep sending me a new card once the card expires. YOU HAVE NO POINT.
Nobody will spoon feed you in America. Everything is there for you to see/read. It is no ones fault if you are too lazy to look before you leap.

Nigerias consitution is only 40+ years fresh.

And at first glance it doesn't make any sense why Alaska congressman Don Young would earmark $10 million for a Florida project that not one single elected official in the state of Florida had asked for, but commissioner Judah says it comes into focus when you learn there was fund raiser for young at this Hyatt outside Ft. Myers that raised more than $41,000 in campaign contributions. And Judah says one of the major organizers of the fundraiser is Dan Aronoff. He's the developer who stands to profit if the interchange is built.
"You're going to have to connect the dots. There's no question in my mind. All of a sudden this $10 million comes out of nowhere. There is a relationship between Mr. Aronoff and the money he has raised for Don Young."

this corruption in America differs from Nigerias own who steals PUBLIC TAX MONEY and pocket it

THIS TYPE OCCURS FREQUENTLY between private companies and government official in America-lobbyist and such
But in naija they are too damn greedy and start taking from PUBLIC TAXES and UN money

thats where the outside world has conflict wit nigerian government

Before you start blasting others on research you use your own brain. One can't rank corruption precisley which is why the CPI is often criticized. People on here used what they see, same as those who created the CPI so of course opinions would vary. Not to metion that list is manipulated to the likes of westernized non socialist countries. So before you post this trash, use your head. Those that were socialist or one party governments were ranked more corrupt. Those same countries are still ahead of countries named the least, in terms of what was used to measure "corruption".

its common sense

You are an idiot. You do know that CPI do their corruption index based on what THE GOVERNMENT OF THAT NATION SENT THEM, they don't assume. They do not make it. IT'S ELECTION VOTES, ETC THAT THE GOVERNMENT SENT THEM. The only reason Somalia is marked that low now is because their government is refusing to send them anything. That's the only time they assume is when the government aren't sending any information.
Abeg, STFU. Stop talking to me. Cause anytime i argue with you; I end up winning. STFU, stop talking to me. You annoy the crap out of me so waka go. Haba.
Re: Is Nigerian Actually The Most Corrupt Nation On Earth As West Pronounces? by sjeezy8: 8:06am On Sep 16, 2009
no need to argue, youre an idiot

If the cpi assumes corruption level for a government who doesn't send their info in as you said, wouldnt that make the CPI non credible? Because its based on assumption and perception just like the people you blasted.

Like i said the CPI is criticized because it is insufficient and there is no real way to MEASURE CORRUPTION.
thats WHY ITS CALLED CORRUPTION PERCEPTION INDEX its based on people assuming and their PERCEPTIONS on these countries.

Why would i want to win an argument with you? im only sayin CPI is no different then what people here did which is ASSUME BASED ON THEIR PERCEPTION.
