ASUU Rejects Scrapping Of Post- UTME by Hertheywarlay: 10:00am On Jul 19, 2016
The Academic Staff Union of Universities on Monday protested against the decision of the Federal Government to scrap the post-Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination.

Warning that the scrapping “portends a serious danger for the quality of education in Nigeria, “the union also said the decision undermined the autonomy and powers of universities’ Senate as the highest policy-making body on academic matters, particularly admission of students and award of degrees.

The ASUU President, Prof. Biodun Ogunyemi, who stated this in Abuja, added that the Federal Government did not consult the union on the matter.

He said, “The cancellation of post-UTME to us portends a serious danger for the quality of education in this country.

“The argument of Federal Government on the policy is unacceptable and potentially harmful to the future of Nigerian’s education system. We call on the government to rescind its decision and convene a genuine stakeholders ‘ meeting on the issue before making any policy statement.”

Lol.. This is funny. As expected, once it comes to money, everyone rebels.

And by the way, I don't just get this line at all: "“portends a serious danger for the quality of education in Nigeria"

Like seriously, what's the current quality of education in Nigeria?

Danger to what exactly?

I think the Minister, Mr. Adamu Adamu, made a mistake by not consulting with the schools before making that decision. Such decisions should not be unilateral.

I agree with ASUU.

PTUME was the last resort of many universities to protect themselves from the bad situation in Nigerian primary and secondary schools.

Better still...bring back A levels.

Watch those are protesting very well, they have interest in the revenue or maybe they are paid protesters.
Re: ASUU Rejects Scrapping Of Post- UTME by Nobody: 11:49am On Jul 19, 2016
Scrapping POST UTME is a no-no for me. Why should candidates who cheated all the way from O'Level to JAMB be granted admission over the genuine ones?

The Federal Ministry of Labour for kuku say make companies no dey do recruitment test again na. Na direct employment.

If FG premised the scrapping on financial burdens on parents, governments should provide post UTME grants to institutions to conduct the exams thus making it FREE for candidates.

Post UTME is the surest way of separating the wheats from the chaffs.

trust me,the lost revenue is there only concern. If FG should stipulate a flat rate of N6000 as the screening fee,all these idiot Profs will shut up immediately.

NANS... Over to you...

Those Muthafhuckers went to the national assembly to protest for Saraki and political matters wey no concern them, now wey the Matter actually affects them, lets see if those corrupt vultures will take this matter up.

Either Post-UTME or JAMB itself needs to be scrapped.

A Secondary school student in Nigeria has to write;

WAEC
NECO
GCE
JAMB
&
POST-UTME

just to gain admission into the University. Meanwhile ehn mate for Ghana writes just WAEC and is in the University the next day studying.
