Lates news about MEND is quite interesting:

If the Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND) intends to make good its threat to resume attacks at the end of the 60-day amnesty period – (September 15) offered by the

Federal Government, let Government Ekpumopolo aka Tompolo and his men remember this: they would be up against not the usual rag-tag Nigerian army. Rather, they will be confronting a highly trained and sophisticated, well equipped, battle-tested contingent of American commandos and South African Special Forces who are poised to take over security of oil and gas installations in the Niger Delta region.

Are these the same Super Commandos that have been fighting rag-tag armies in Somalia, Afghanistan, Iraq, Pakistan, etc, etc, just to name a few bongo-bongo countries? With how much success?  I tell you these super-commandos have not got a hope-in-hell in the Delta region. They are fighting for Oil and Money, whereas the Delta people are fighting for their livelihood, their land, their chidlren, their future. Big motivation difference.

This is very sad for Nigeria. Who are the spineless, gutless morons we have running this country? When you have a conflict with your brother, child, sister in your house, do you go and get the next door neighbour to come deal with them. Or do you handle this yourself locally?

Oh. My. God!
You people see a ludicrous article from a source that does not inspire confidence 'huhuonline'. You see an article with no mentioned source, only the tried and true method of referring to 'impeccable sources'. Yet you fall over yourselves to take this sensationalist crap seriously?

When you people keep screaming for a revolution in NigeRia, first carry that revolution to your brains!
Fela was wrong; it isn't just soldiers that act like zombies.

There is one single problem Yaradull have had right from b4 he was forced unto us, He has always seen Nigeria with Dr. frog's approach, he has never seen it so big and great beyond his father's compound,
Am surprised people are mention US invading Nigeria as they did in Iraq, Let them try it and see wht they will get,
The yaradul should know that Nigeria is greater than wht he thinks that him and US can jst  toil around with unless they calling for a 3rd wolrd war. Let any of their soldiers step into Nigerian soil.

okay let me get this right the nigerian govt is INVITING US COMMANDOES ONTO NIGERIAN SOIL IN ORDER TO SAFEGUARD NIGERIAN OIL WELLS AND KILL NIGERIANS ON THEIR OWN SOIL!!!!!!!!!!!

I think it should be abundantly clear to anyone who was in any doubt before that the nigerian govt are US puppets, obviously the puppet master now feels that its high time they take charge of the situation and take control of the oil wells in the niger delta region, unlike Iraq these scumbag leaders are actually inviting a foreign army to occupy their land, so basically this is really a covert invasion.

what makes these useless traitors think america will leave after they have undertaken this task? after all if they are investing millions in military personnel and equipment why not simply establish a permanent base in nigeria under the guise of peacekeeping just like in Iraq.

words fail me, this does not bode well for nigeria at all.

The want to sell the economy by giving the banks to a Chinese fronted group, bring in foreign troops to shoot us. Why don't these bastards just bring in the Slave ships again and start loading up. The first time we were exchanged for whisky, herbs etc. This time it will be for oil. Will the fiery furnace of hell be ever hot enough for our so called leaders?

The United States is extremely unlikely to deploy ground troops to the Niger Delta unless full blown civil war does actually ignite there, but there is absolutely no doubt that Uncle Sam has a very keen interest in developments that threaten Nigeria's oil fields, and in that capacity will already have eyes and ears on the ground there, in the form of civilian and military advisors.

The skillset of such "advisers" would range from combat aviation to surveillance, demolitions and counter-insurgency.  Concealed sidearms are standard issue in areas that warrant it, and African American operatives are preferentially selected for missions in regions of the globe where darker complections blend in better with the local population.  While there is never going to be a Mogadishu-style beach invasion of the Nigerian coastline by US marines, influence will be brought to bear by America, if intelligence emerging from Nigeria suggests a clear and present danger to the capacity of the country to export that precious black gold to the West.

I call this masqueraded collonialism. It's about to be launched and the FG of Nig should be very careful before we begin to count our loses. Apparently such favours don't just slip by easily, they have strings  of negative re-payments. A word is enough for the wise.  sad
Re: American Marines To Help Fight MEND? by paulvitti: 2:05pm On Sep 15, 2009
the Americans will suffer from the crude hands of the militants.
these guys are not using strategies that are conventional. They act outside the box.
they use combination of military and crude intelligence most times.
this is one of the reasons, the Nigeria army is find hard to tackle. if it were crude, good, the generals will plant
a bait and the guys will fall. if military intelligence better for them.
but their style is so odd,
lets keep our eyes open.
I am not in support of either side.

These people deserve a better living environment and it is very wrong to approach  issues with violence,

There is bound to be an element of truth in this. But to Nigeria's chagrin.

The US is seeing Russia encroach heavily on its territory. Nigeria is a country rapidly approaching failed state status. In such a scenario, how do you expect the US to react? Think of how you would react if you were the US and could muster enough force to change the situation in a failing state that your economy depends on for 12% of its energy needs.

For the country as whole, what do you think heavy US and Russian presence in the ND forebodes? Russia wants our gas, the US wants our oil. It would come down to a simple calculation of who ND folk would rather ally with and the rest of the country will be swiftly jettisoned.

We have a group of idiots ruling us. They will do anything for a buck. . . Even committing suicide.

If America comes they will never leave. Nigeria will just end up as a US military base, probably hosting AFRICOM. Pathetic, Yaradull needs to go now.

The signal the federal govenment are sending now is that they do not want to fufill their promise to the improvished niger delta region. This is rather unfortunate. I would have expected that by now we can handle such internal conflict. lets keep our hands crossed.

why should the US see nigeria as THEIR TERRITORY, are we not a sovereign country with the right to our own self determination?  but i agree the US feels that China is encroaching into THEIR territory - AFRICA - and in particular oil rich nigeria, this was the whole basis for setting up AFRICOM in the first place - to displace China and retain their foothold in Nigeria who provides them with 25%  their total oil imports - they need us but not in a good way - they need us the way an abuser needs a victim, Yaradua and his cronies have remained compliant in the rape and expropriation of our oil and they want things to remain that way but the only problem is those "irritating niger delta militants" who are lowering oil production - this is why Yar adua with a lot of intimidation from his puppet masters has decided to let them take charge of the situation, nothing good will come of this, if  you doubt this, remember Liberia, they were regarded as a satellite country of america due to historical ties, but when war broke out in that country and Doe (american puppet)  was overthrown what did america do?  they withdrew their citizens from the country and stationed their navy offshore but allowed the liberians to slaughter each other - why? because no natural resources which would benefit america were at stake.

dont ever imagine for one minute that america cares one hoot about black africans, remember this is a country which practised an apartheid system similar to south africa based on racial discrimination right up until 1964 until the blacks revolted.

they are using psychology on africans by putting an african american four star general in command of AFRICOM (the same way they've used Obama to deceive many blacks in america to beleive that racial discrimination is now a thing of the past)  in order to lull nigerians into a false sense of security - its all deception and the truth of their intentions will very soon be revealed for all to see.

US Army Prepares for Nigeria’s Possible Break-up (2015)
ShareThis
August 17th, 2009

Master Sgt. Loren Bonser/U.S. Army {AllAfrica}
NewsRescue- The article below and related articles raise pertinent questions- 1. Is the United States promoting a breakup, in what’s known as the ’tissue scarcity scare’ scenario, where the suggestion and promotion of a concept leads to its manifestation. Nigerians skeptical about the possibility of a breakup get reassured that best analysis from the US suggests its high possibility of success and parties in favor of this go ahead in full force to make this so-called expert analysis a reality? Or is a natural breakup indeed the reality?

The US has been known to be at the center of important breakups in the past. Countries like Vietnam and Korea had the US play a major skewed role, and when these Nations divided into North and South, the US stationed its troops at the border to defend usually the Southern territory, and the Northern usually became a rejected, isolated rudiment.

In Nigeria the North, currently the power holding block, which is majorly Muslim, and lacks petroleum resources will almost certainly be turned into an Arab aligned, possibly terrorist ‘axis of evil’, Nation. While the US will according to experts defend and instill puppet rule over the resourceful South, which it is believed it will assist in secession if a breakup war occurs.

The US will likely favor such a breakup for obvious reasons- the current leader of Nigeria thumped his finger in the US nose, clearly rejecting the installation of US AFRICOM military command in Nigeria. Nigeria’s government has also of recent signed deals with Russia and Iran for major resource, military and power(Nuclear generation) mutual ventures. This alliance possibly does not sit well with the US. In addition, Nigeria has been promoting development, not by serving US interest but by cooperation’s with so-called third world Nations like Brazil.

According to Major Robert Thornton, an officer with the Joint Center for International Security Force Assistance at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, “it became apparent that it was actually green (the host nation government) which had the initiative, and that any blue [the U.S. government and its allies] actions within the frame were contingent upon what green was willing to tolerate and accommodate.”“As the game progressed, according to former U.S. ambassador David Lyon, it became clear that the government of Nigeria was a large part of the problem. As he put it, ‘we have a circle of elites [the government of Nigeria] who have seized resources and are trying to perpetuate themselves. Their interests are not exactly those of the people,” said the article.

“The recommendations which the participants drew up for the Army’s Chief of Staff, General George Casey, do not appear to be publicly available, as what the participants finally concluded was not known. But since the war games took place in the midst of the presidential election campaign, General Casey decided to brief both John McCain and Barack Obama on its results,” the article stated.

The game ended without military intervention because one of the rival factions executed a successful coup and formed a new government that sought stability.

AFRICOM representatives were said to be in communication throughout the test, but non of their officers were part of the event, said Volman.

Volman observed that neither the General of AFRICOM William Ward nor Vice Admiral Mueller “were under illusions about the” purpose of the command.

“Thus when General Ward appeared before the House Armed Services Committee on March 13, 2008, he cited America’s growing dependence on African oil as a priority issue for AFRICOM and went on to proclaim that combating terrorism would be “AFRICOM’s number one theatre-wide goal.” He barely mentioned development, humanitarian aid, peace-keeping or conflict resolution.”

“Since then, as General Ward has demonstrated in an interview with AllAfrica, he has become more adept at sticking to the US government official public position on AFRICOM’s aims and on its escalating military operations on the African continent,” stated the piece. Volman argued that contrary to expectations, President Obama had chosen to increase US military intervention in Africa by providing arms and training to the Transitional Government in Somalia, an attempt to make the continent a central battlefield in the “global war on terrorism.”

He further argued that the operations of AFRICOM had been expanded through a proposed budget for financial year 2010, which will provide increased security assistance to repressive regimes in Nigeria, Niger, Chad, and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and key US allies such as Ethiopia, Kenya, Djibouti, Rwanda and Uganda.

The war game test drew various participants from the State Department and other US government agencies, foreign military officers (including military representatives from several NATO countries, Australia and Israel), journalists, academics, and the private military contractors that helped run the war games: the Rand Corporation and Booz-Allen.
Another of the four scenarios that were war-gamed was a test of how AFRICOM could respond to a crisis in Somalia — set in 2025 — caused by escalating insurgency and piracy. Unfortunately, no information on the details of the scenario is available.

The five-day game was designed to look at what crisis might erupt in different parts of the world in five to 25 years and how the US might respond. Back in 2005, the US had predicted that Nigeria would break-up in 2015. The report was highly criticised by Nigerian leaders.

As usual, those nigerians can not fight. We said it and it's happening now. During the war against Biafrans, they were almost calling it quits because of the fear of the rapid advancement of the Biafran forces until Britain assured them of military assistance when Gowon was already about the flee Lagos.
Britain, Sudan Egypt and Russian came in to fight the war for them and they came out to take the glory. Now, it is going to backfire as the Americans will have a totally different agenda to come in disguise and then later help in dividing the country as they have already predicted.
After all, they the Americans still would not lose anything as the oil in the hands of it's rightful owners the Niger Deltans will still be exploited by American companies and sold to America. But this time with the money accrued from the sales going direct into the pockets of the real oil owners, the Niger Delta government.

I agree with you, Nigeria always weak and confuse, this is not a biafran war, this is more of internal issue, now  inviting foreign country to help them again. let me see how this aid will help them in  the end of the day.
This is like using a short time solution to solve a long time problem.
