To many girls, their whole life will be made if Davido drags/pulls them onto his video interview for the whole world to see. The opposite is the case for other girls. That is the case for Maria Okugo. Read her story below;

FOR RAPE CULTURE TO END, WE MUST END ALL FORMS OF SEXUAL VIOLENCE.

In March, my friends and I were impacted by rape culture after enjoying an afternoon
of SXSW activities. Heading home past various bars, cyphers, vacationers and celebrities, my friends and I spotted one of my few 1 Nigerian artists, Davido. His “Aye,” “Dami Duro” and “Bahd Baddo Baddest,” are popular selections at primarily African events. While we debated going to say hello, Davido’s friend motioned us over, and Davido interrupted his interview to grab my friend’s hand to greet her, then grabbed my hand as well. He jokingly continued with his interview and we all laughed. Shortly after, Davido rapped up his interview and kindly joined us in fun picture-taking.

Months later, a snippet of Davido’sSXSW interview surfaced on Twitter and Instagram, and when my friends and I realized we were captured in the interview we thought it was dope. My phone blew up with links and “Omg! You’re in this video!” texts. The snippets featured thousands of retweets, favorites and likes. We thought nothing else other than the fact we’re cool chicks.
“Look at the way she slid out to greet him” or “Ashweo,” a misspelling of the Nigerian word “Ashawo” — LovePeddler.

But then we read a Twitter thread bashing us, insinuating we were eager to pursue Davido sexually and get a glimpse of his money. Some twisted the lighthearted nature of the video by sexualizing us, feeding into rape culture’s propensity to label all attractive females sexually available to men. Instagram comments read “Look at the way she slid out to greet him” or “Ashweo,” a misspelling of the Nigerian word “Ashawo” — LovePeddler. Being pretty, speaking in a kind tone and wearing various types of clothing apparently placed us in this demeaning category. Being who we are, all our lives we’ve felt immune to such violence and couldn’t believe the comments we read.

The truth is, many women can relate to various superficial forms of protection to survive in society. I’ve situated my life to fit constraints and gone above and beyond, given my natural appearance, to make sure I don’t seem like I’m “asking for it.” That day, I wore a bandeau and bell flare pants to the festival, which I rethought countless times before I left the house and readjusted many times hoping to satisfy society and “cover up.”

My Instagram, which features photos of myself, a curvaceous girl, in cropped tops, bikinis and body conscious fits remains private to ward off trolls, perverts and those who knowingly an unknowingly indulge in rape culture. I’ve passed on opportunities for growth in my music endeavors, keeping my father the head of my activities primarily because most music producers and artists are male, and I wish to convey a “strictly business” ethos.
The belated backlash to what was a perfect day underscores rape culture and its blind eye to women of all backgrounds. It forces we women to hide and dilute our sense of art and fashion with hopes of making our dress and behavior mimic our core values, which unfortunately, are intangible and cannot be worn. Whether it be our style of dress or character, women are forced to adjust themselves in a way that doesn't seem too suggestive but society is wired in a way that sexualization is too difficult to avoid.

It’s easy to think — this isn’t the story of a woman getting seriously hurt, so why does it matter? Even asking this question shows how deeply ingrained rape culture is, that we’ve become desensitized to the small, daily acts of violence that make women’s lives smaller and less livable. Having told one story from one woman, we invite all of you: What story do you have to tell, to de-normalize rape culture and remind young women we’re people, too?

Maria Okugo is a 2016 graduate of the University of Texas at Austin, and her mentor, Omise’eke Natasha Tinsley, a Public Voices Fellow, is a professor of African and African Diaspora Studies.

I am Maria, the original author of this article. "Datswatsup" the people that pitched this to you have twisted the story and have given my article a FALSE headline which makes it seem as though Davido sexually assaulted me, which he did NOT. If you read my article you will notice that I did not accuse Davido of anything. My article targets the people on Instagram and Twitter that watched this video and sexualized me and my friends calling us whores simply by being women and dressed a certain way. This is slander. You are advised to delete this post.

Please see screenshots of Datswhatsup indirectly admitting that the headline and thier comments about my article are false
Their original headline was "Girl Accuses Davido of Sexual Assualt"
