1. To have Wudhu (Ablution).
2. To brush the mouth before beginning the recitation.
3. To be in a clean pure place.
4. To read with humility, calmness and dignity.
5. To seek refuge with Allah (Ta’awwuz) at its beginning due to His saying Ta’aalaa: “And when you (want to) read the Qur’an seek refuge with Allah from satan the rejected one” [An-Nahl: 98].
6. To observe Bismillaahir- Rahmaanir-Raheem at the beginning of each Surah except Surah Baraa’ah.
7. His recitation should be slow beautifying his voice due to the Messenger’s (May Allah’s blessings and peace be upon him) : “Beautify the Qur’an with your voices” [Ibn Hibban narrated it], and His saying Ta’aalaa: “And recite the Qur’an well” [Al-Muzzammil: 4].
8. To ponder over what he is reading due to His saying Ta’aalaa: “A blessed book, We have revealed to you so that you may ponder over its verses” [Saad: 29].
9. To be touched by the Qur’an verses whether a promise or a warning. Allah Ta’aalaa said: “And when His verses are recited to them they increase them in faith” [Al- Anfaal: 2].
10. To read loudly wherever loudness is better.
