The Nigerian government has cancelled its plan to build a massive film village in the northern state of Kano, following social media outcry and opposition from Muslim clerics.

More than three billion naira ($10m; £7.6m) was budgeted for the project as part of the government's efforts to improve the Hausa language film industry known as Kannywood.

The government argued the village would create thousands of job opportunities and promote cultural activities.

But Muslims clerics argued it would promote immorality and people on social media also called on the government to stop the plan.

An aide to President Muhammadu Buhari told local media that the president has listened to the people's concerns.

Nigeria definetely needs restructuring. Let those who insist on backwardness stay on their own while we who have interest in moving forward stay on our lane. We can not be held back by people's feelings anymore.

The Nigerian film industry which the world knows about is concentrated in the calabar-asaba-enugu axis.
What the hell is a FG funded film village doing in kano, a conservative islamic hotbed ? How much does kannywood or whatever contributes to Nigeria's GDP?.They just want to corner everything because they dominate Nigeria's politics with their army of almajiris.
Anybody that believes in Nigeria's future must be seriously mad.

Wait a second... The mainstream Nigerian film industry of Asaba-Enugu-Calabar axis, which is what has brought us international recognition and admiration from our African peers (like Kenya, Ghana, Cameroun, Congo, Malawi, Senegal, Uganda, Tanzania and the rest of Africa), you're not supporting... Rather, you're taking from the country's commonwealth to go build a Kannywood film village in the religiously intolerant and islamic fundamentalist hotbed known as Kano? Jesus Christ!
Was this logic inspired by the similar one that had Nigeria building an OIL REFINERY in KADUNA?

I swear to God, if you leave these Northerners, they're ready to criminally CORNER everything about the country's commonwealth without any regards to DIGNITY, merit or common sense.

You all witnessed the way these savage criminals turned Nigeria's oil industry into a family affair during the military regime, criminally awarding oil blocs to their friends, brothers, sisters, MISTRESSES, girlfriends, cousins, nieces and nephews, in such BRAZEN display of arrogance, entitlement and IMPUNITY.
These people were not built for democracy. PERIOD! No sugarcoating or political correctness can surmount this glaring fact.
They crave their past social structure of Authoritarian EMPERORS and Paramount rulers where their leaders reign supreme and make arbitrary decisions without putting into consideration the ethnic diversity of the country.
They crave their cultural system that engenders oligarchs and cabals, creating a class structural divide of 'The Royalties and The Serfs".

IMAGINE! You want to use the country's commonwealth to develop a film village in Kano, to help strengthen "The Hausa Language"? A section of the country.
How many people did you consult before embarking on this rubbish?

Nothing for Pound Road, Aba
Nothing for Iweka Road, Onitsha
Nothing for Idumota, Lagos

Mba. It is for Kano, the hotbed of religious intolerance.

Shame on this primitive, parochial tribalist.
