Moringa is a plant that is native to the sub-Himalayan areas of India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan. Moringa is beneficial as a food because of its ability to grow in a variety of climates, especially subtropical climates. In fact, Moringa Oleifera grows in virtually all countries where malnutrition is widespread and may be a great part of a comprehensive plan to alleviate malnutrition throughout the world.

Moringa has become popular as a leaf powder supplement, although the pods, roots, bark, flowers, seeds, and fruits are also edible.

It’s used as a traditional remedy for many ailments, and here are 6 scientifically backed benefits of consuming it:

1. It’s nutrient-packed.
Moringa is rich in vitamins, minerals, and amino acids. It contains significant amountsof vitamins A, C, and E; calcium; potassium; and protein. Moringa has more protein than yogurt, more potassium than bananas, more calcium than milk and more Vitamin C than oranges.

2. It fights inflammation.
Inflammation can lead to chronic diseases like diabetes, respiratory problems, cardiovascular disease, arthritis, and obesity. Moringa reduces inflammation bysuppressing inflammatory enzymes and proteins in the body, and moringa leaf concentrate can significantly lower inflammation in the cells.

3. It helps reduce some diabetes symptoms.
Moringa leaf powder has been effective at reducing lipid and glucose levels andregulating oxidative stress in diabetic patients, which means it lowers blood sugar and cholesterol and improves protection against cell damage.

4. It enhances wound healing.
Moringa has blood-clotting properties in its leaves, roots, and seeds that enhance wound healing and can reduce clotting time, which means it reduces the time it takes for scratches, cuts, or wounds to stop bleeding.

5. Moringa is also used to reduce swelling, increase sex drive (as an aphrodisiac), prevent pregnancy, boost the immune system, and increase breast milk production. Some people use it as a nutritional supplement or tonic.

6. Moringa is sometimes applied directly to the skin as a germ-killer or drying agent (astringent). It is also used topically for treating pockets of infection (abscesses), athlete’s foot, dandruff, gum disease (gingivitis), snakebites, warts, and wounds.

How to Use It
You can add moringa powder to your smoothie or drink it as a tea. The leaf powder wasdeemed safe in human studies, even in larger doses than normal. The powder has a mild flavor, so it makes for a light tea with a slightly earthy taste.

Though due to its possible effects on hormones and cholesterol, it is important to check with a doctor or specialist before using.

Have you ever used Moringa? What was your experience?
