50% Of You Will Fail This Question. by Nobody: 7:44pm On Jul 29, 2016
Some birds were flying, and met a bird on their way.
The bird greeted them; hello hundred!, they said "we are not hundred, we need half of us plus you to make us hundred".

Question: How many birds were flying?.
Re: 50% Of You Will Fail This Question. by Donpizzle(m): 8:10pm On Jul 29, 2016
66 birds

66/2 = 33
Therefore; 66+33+1= 100

Let the number of birds flying be x

Therefore (x/2) + 1=100

X/2=99

X=99*2

X=198

My first post is just a logical estimate.
Mathematically
x + (x/2) + 1=100.........(1)
therefore
2x+x+2=200
3x=198
x=66 sub x into the eqn (1) above
I have 66+(66/2)+1 which equals to
66+33+1=100.
Done
Pls x cannot equal 198 because 198 is already greater than their sum (100). Thank you.

the birds didn't say we need half of us more plus you or anything that suggested more had to be added to them. Rather they said we need half of us plus you. I think it's 198,then they would need half of us[99] plus one

Ah! Over the bar!!! ( in the tone of a football commentator).

How could it be 198 when they were supposed to be one hundred?

Some birds were flying, and met a bird on their way.
The bird greeted them; hello hundred!, they said "we are not hundred, we need half of us plus you to make us hundred".

At bold portions, mean they were not up to hundred. so, 198 is really over the bar! grin

Partly correct answer is this:

However, Donpizzle missed out the bird that greeted them.

Here is the question:

Question: How many birds were flying?.

Since the bird that met them was also flying, it should be added.

The correct answer is 67! cool

"We are not hundred" is not the same as " we are not up to hundred"

You need to read it in context to get it right. The second bold portion reads "to make us hundred"; does that translate to the fact that they were less than hundred ?

I am two hundred years old, you call me hundred.
And I reply, no I'm not hundred, you'll need half my age to make me hundred.

"to make us hundred" is not the same as "to make us UP to hundred"

What is your answer to the question? present your calculation
