•PDP SENATE CAUCUS REAFFIRMS SUPPORT FOR SENATE PRESIDENT

FORCES loyal to Senate President, Bukola Saraki, and the All Progressives Congress (APC) are set for a major battle ahead of Senate’s resumption in September following indications that a former president had advised President Muhammadu Buhari to remove the Senate leadership by all means possible.

Some online outfits reported last week that the visit of former President Olusegun Obasanjo to the Presidential Villa last week Centred on the need for the president to remove the leadership of the Senate to stave off distractions to his government.

Though there was no official confirmation of the discussions between Obasanjo and Buhari, it was confirmed that senators loyal to both sides of the divide are already weighing options ahead of the battle royale.

Sources close to the Senate said that the lawmakers loyal to Saraki and his deputy, Ike Ekweremadu see an impeachment bid as a tall order but are not ready to take chances.

The Presidency has refused to patronise the National Assembly as a result of divisions within the ruling APC over the emergence of Saraki as Senate President.

Sources in the Senate said that Saraki’s loyalists got a boost two weeks ago when the caucus of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) met and further decided to firm up a working relationship with Saraki.

But insiders in the National Assembly said that if the Presidency was ready to “roll out the drums” the support base of the Senate President and his deputy could get eroded.

“Right now, the support base of the Senate President and Senator Ekweremadu appears solid. The executive has failed to treat the National Assembly as a partner and thus has alienated the lawmakers. But if the rule changes, we cannot be too sure what will happen,” a lawmaker said on Saturday.

Sources said that the Senate already had a fertile ground for opposition to Saraki with the existence of the Senate Unity Forum (SUF).

“Right now, it appears that very few senators will back Saraki’s ouster in view of the collateral damage they have suffered from the executive in the last one year. The only game changer would come if the people see real changes,” another senator said.

Other members of the Senate, however, condemned the advice attributed to Obasanjo, saying it shows he doesn’t want the Buhari government to know peace.

“If it is true that Baba [Obasanjo] said President Buhari should impeach the leadership of the Senate, that would be counterproductive and doesn’t show the former president wants peace for the new government. We should find solutions rather than heat up the polity,” a lawmaker of the APC said.

It was however gathered that loyalists of the APC hierarchy had mapped out measures aimed at getting at Saraki.

One of the measures is to draw up a list of those who could be reached with mouthwatering largesse from those who want the Senate President out.

“By September, both camps would be ready. I assure you it would be a big battle if the executive kick started it,” another senator said.

Lolz forget all the noise!! Saraki's support base in the 8th senate is rock solid!! The APC will not even get the simple majority let alone the 2/3 majority needed to remove him!!

Roll out drums ke? Na where dem won see the money? Besides most of these senators today are billionaires and former Governor and not the hungry ones in the 1999 senate that Obasanjo was just dangling money at!!!! How much exactly can anyone give to the likes of Akpabio,Melaye,Uba,Kashamu, oduah, etc? These guys are billionaires!!

Saraki or no Saraki,
That won't bring down the price of kerosene or make garri as cheap as it used to be.

If after One year, Saraki is still sitting on the IRON THRONE after all the missiles that have been hauled at him by the disorganized schemes of the wildlings called the executives, then they should forget about removing him because it will come to naught.

Saraki has proven that he knows all the antics of sacking or impeaching a Senate president and how to escape all the schemes very well.

Look at the kind of issue Buhari is 'rolling out the drums' for.
Everything in the nation is nosediving and the economy is in serious recession, yet he has no idea on how to manage it. Its to victimize his fellow human being that he knows how to roll out the drums.

8th Assembly has been the weakest of times.
Lame toothless bull dogs.

Never in history has our senate been bullied by the executive.

This APC governemnt is selfishly retarding our democratic development.

They are too naive, they are ignorant of the capacity of powers they can wield.

A house built on a wrong foundation cannot stand.
APC was built on a faulty foundation, i ve never expected anything good from them .

Instead of APC to come out with masses friendly policies and resuscitation of our dying economy all they are fighting is the Senate leadership.

Prices of Fuel, Kerosene and food stuffs is skyrocketing yet they are playing politics on the head of the poor masses!

#continue but saraki is going nowhere!

bla bla bla, nonsense journalism. Nothing concrete, all speculations.
If Buhari is wise, he would let sleeping dog lie for now, the 2017 budget is supposed to be presented in September-October and I believe he wants to avoid the drama and embarassment associated with this year's budget which is still below 10% implementation.
That's if he is wise sha

saraki self na mumu. He is not utilizing that senate president seat well at all. If saraki could muster enough courage and shake buhari a little with an impeachment threat, buhari will adjust sharply.
To stave him up from unneccesary interferance, saraki shoul and must fight back.

Buhari had many impeachable offences like flagrant disobedience to court orders, abuse of office through loop-sided appointment, his fake and forged certificate, the genocide against the shia and the masacre of ipob members.

Before i forgot, buhari also forged his waec certificate. This and many others is an edge saraki can also use to fight back. But if he choose to remain dull and dump, buhari will continue to be like the proverbial tsetse-fly petching on saraiki's scrotum.

They only fight for their interests and not the interest of the people. Just like the adage that says one day monkey will go to the market and not return hope this is food for thought for our politricians and the unables in the hollowed house when the people will protest and get them out of that house !!! shocked

Useless lot! See the inconsequential issue that they are striving to do something about. Is this of any importance to the present situation we are currently in?

Sometimes I don't even know what to say. This government really needs to iron out her priorities. Lest we all wake up and discover we no longer have a country.
