An invisible revolution in Kwara

So much has been said of the massive agrarian revolution the Kwara State government is undertaking, with the invitation of Zimbabwean farmers in 2004.

Bukola Saraki, the state governor had, with fanfare, welcomed 13 white farmers whose farms were seized due to the controversial land reform programme of the Zimbabwean government. The farmers were given over a thousand hectares of arable farm land in the remote town of Shonga, a little over two-hours’ drive from Ilorin, the state’s capital.

But NEXT investigations reveal that, five years after, produce from the much trumpeted agrarian revolution cannot be found in the host community markets and within the Ilorin metropolis,

Kwara is really a place to be ashamed of. One of the oldest states of the country, created with the other 15 some donkey years back yet, no visible (and invisible) develop has been recorded since.
She has been exploited for all these years by, you know who. Civil Servants in this state are the lowest paid anywhere in the country. Ilorin, the sate capital was the only part of the state frequently remembered for infrastructure development but now, even that has changed. A trip to the capital city of Kwara from Jebba or Offa will give you eye sore for the kind of bad road networks in this city (it is understandable as these are federal roads).
Soory for the digression (ti 'jo ba ka ni lara, gbogbo ara la n fi njo o). On the Songa farm, that was another waterloo for the present administration. Remember, these are peasant farmers whose only source of livelihood is agriculture. If you were the one you will also fight back with all you have. This is just what Songa did. These people are Nupes, heavily jazed-up (if you know what I mean).
In a nut-shell, the failure of Songa farm is as a result of the displeasure expressed by the people whose lands have been taken by casting spell on the farmlands. Overnight, evil birds came and devoured the devourer’s labour. grin
