CLAUDIO RANIERI is the first to admit that
Leicester are going to miss N’Golo Kante big time.
STAR MAN Kante had a remarkable season last campaign. The midfield battler they sold to Chelsea for £32m last month was arguably THE most influential player in last season’s title triumph.
That’s why the Italian is now asking all the
players Kante left behind to each do the work of two men to fill the big gap he left behind –
starting against Manchester United today.
England’s unlikely champions have had two rude pre-season awakenings against Paris St-Germain and Barcelona so far with hefty 4-0 and 4-2 defeats in the International Champions Cup tournament.
And Ranieri is now calling on his troops to play
the Kante way to make sure they do not suffer a similar fate in today’s Community Shield curtain- raiser.
Or in any of the rest of this season’s Premier
League and Champions League campaigns as
well for that matter.
Ranieri said: “If Chelsea bought Kante, it’s because he played as two players last season.
“The referee counted 11 [on our team] but
we were 12. Now everybody must understand that there is no Kante so we have to be more close. They must do something extra.”
The same will apply when Leicester’s first
Champions League campaign kicks off.
Ranieri said: “When you play for the first time in the Champions League you lose a lot of mental energy. The big teams are used to playing in the Champions League but for us it is new.
Everything is step by step. It is not possible to
build everything in one year.”
