Short Story- 5 Dead

‘Shut-up! Shut-up damn dog!’ Joy shouted. The dog was barking in response to the loud noise of someone pounding on the door.
Her parents had left for a weekend trip this morning and she used that opportunity to invite her boyfriend, Tom over. People rarely visited them, and most of her friends would be in school by now.


Who could it be? Who could it be? She thought to herself. She was pacing up and down the length of her kitchen with a glass cup of milk in her hand. The oversized robe she had on showed up a great portion of her upper body. She was very oblivious of this, as her mind was fixed on who was at her door.


When the pounding got unbearable to her ears she walked up to see who it was. Her full grown Alsatian trailed behind her. She ran her hand through the full length of the dog's back, from neck to tail, trying to ease off some tension. She looked through the peep-hole and was surprised to see her friend, Joy, on the other side.
'Jeez! You scared the hell out of me. Ain't you meant to be in school or something...' She said with her back to her friend, making her way back to the kitchen. She stopped when she didn't get any response. She could have sworn she peed in her pants when she turned around. A man was holding joy by the wrist and held up a knife to his lips, signaling for joy to be silent.


You watch a lot of movies, and you see how people react to instances like this, but you can never know how you would react. You can never know.


The glass cup she was holding fell to the flow and shattered, spilling milk all over the Mable floor. She stood there, dumbstruck, not making a sound as the man advanced towards her. He had on dirty khaki pants, and a white t-shirt. She could see the outline of a gun underneath his white tee. He got close enough to her and whispered in her left ear, 'Who else is home?'. She saw herself shaking her head 'Nobody.' She said in a shaky voice. The guy smiled and stared fumbling with her breast and made a face like a retard. Then he started loosening her rob, and in no time it fell to the floor; all the while still holding veronica with one hand.


All of a sudden, from nowhere, Tom landed a blow on the side of the man's face. Then confusion broke out. Tom and the man started wrestling on the floor, veronica ran towards the kitchen screaming, joy just stood there looking at her boyfriend and the strange man wrestling. Then she heard a loud sound. She knew it was a gun shot, but was not sure who was hit. Then the man got up and she saw her boyfriend's body lifeless on the floor.


The man started moving towards her, and then she felt a hand push her aside, and veronica ran in on the man with a knife, screaming and stabbing the man continuously around the groin area. Then there was another loud sound and she saw her friend collapse to the floor. The man took some steps towards her before he dropped to the ground. She knew he was dead when his grip on the gun loosened.
Then she stood there staring at the three lifeless bodies on the floor, and all of a sudden, like she was aware of the fact that they were all dead, she started screaming and running towards the door. She didn't make it half-way before she slipped and fell. She slipped from the milk that spilled on the floor from the glass that had earlier dropped from her.


Breathing was hard, and then she started coughing blood. A piece of glass had cut her throat and she was bleeding uncontrollably. Within seconds, she was lying lifeless in her own pool of blood.


Within 5 minutes 4 people died. 3 homicide, 2 gun inflicted deaths, 1 knife inflicted; The last death, accidental. But even "Sherlock Holmes" wouldn't know what really happened.
