Aruna Quadri’s fairytales in the table tennis event at the Rio Olympics ended in the early hours of Wednesday sad following his 4-0 quarter-final loss to world number one, Chinese Ma Long, in the men’s singles event.

Before Wednesday’s loss, Quadri had caused a major upset on Sunday beating Chinese Taipei’s Chuang Chih-Yuan 4-0 in the third round. Quadri, in a thrilling encounter on Monday, beat his German round four opponent, Boll Timo, 4-2, to seal a historic berth in the quarter- finals of men’s single table tennis event.

Despite the loss, Frot Group has rewarded the athlete with a $2,500 gift, while countries across the continent close ranks to celebrate the Africa’s pride in Brazil.
