No fewer than 17 vehicles were crushed yesterday along
St.John of God junction Zik avenue Awka as a high capacity
luxury bus had break failure and wrecked havoc in the area leaving about 12 persons severely injured.
Eyewitness account revealed that the heavy duty vehicle was over-speeding on the busy road
which leads to the main market in the capital city and lost control leading
to the tragedy that occured about 8:45 am yesterday morning.
When contacted the sector commander of the Anambra command of the federal roads afety commission.
Mr.Sunday Michael Ajayi said that a total of 18 vehicles were involved in the crash.
He said vehicles involved in the crash were badly damaged adding that out of the 18 vehicles
7 were tricycles ( keke napep ) while 11 were motor vehicles respectively .
Ajayi equally coroborated the fact that break failure was responsible
for the catastrophe that took place stressing that it was rather an unfortunate situation.
He also said that the 12 persons that were injured in the course of
the accident were taken to 3 different hospitals in the state capital
for immediate medical attention and that there no deaths recorded.
The sector commander further disclosed that the driver of the luxury
bus that caused the multiple accident was currently on-the-run
while the bus itself was identified as God's Own Motors
