Abang Shouldn’t Turn Himself To A Notorious Judge — Ajulo by agwom(m): 7:06am On Aug 19, 2016
A legal practitioner, Mr Kayode Ajulo, in his remarks toed the path of the Appeal Court, but also warned that Justice Abang should not turn himself to “a notorious judge.”abang Ajulo said: “It is elementary law that when the Appeal Court sits on a matter, the lower courts or the trial courts ought to hands-off the case. If a judge chooses to do otherwise, I believe he is on his own; he is on a voyage of no return and there is law and procedure to deal with such errant judge. “As a lawyer, I am not in a position to castigate Justice Abang, what I need to do is to concur with the Court of Appeal. Why we should obey the law is because those who disobey the law, should be sanctioned. I am afraid that Justice Abang should not turn himself to a notorious judge.” The matter will get to the Supreme Court — Ngige On his part, Chief Emeka Ngige,SAN, averred that the issue may possibly get to the Supreme Court, where the apex court would adjudicate as it deems suitable. He said: “The matter is likely to get to the Supreme Court. At the end, the court would take decision in its wisdom”. I have been vindicated — Ozhekhome In his reaction, Human Rights activist and Constitutional Lawyer, Chief Mike Ozekhome, said the pronouncement of the Appeal Court has vindicated him, adding that it was evident that Justice Abang placed the law on its head and he somersaulted. He also said every judgement given by Justice Abang on the Abia State case was a somersault and constitutionally an abberation and a great disservice to the judicial process. He stated: “Ordinary people on the street have been accosting me and asking why do Justices behave like that and I said I do not know. The truth is that the entire judgement on the Abia case was wrong. It dislodged logic and law. The judgment did not take cognisance of the fact that every affidavit says I swear as follows and you end it by saying I swear to this affidavit conspicously and faithfully which means everything you swear is true and correct. “Even if a fake or incorrect tax clearance had been given to the taxpayer and you attach it to your form CS001 which is the form you fill for governorship, how does that concern you and how do you question the tax office over the documents they gave? “How do you say because the tax clearance was issued on a Saturday, it means that is was fake. How does Justice Abang say Saturday is a public holiday when the public holiday act in Nigeria specified that public holidays are on Christmas day, New year day, Independence day and May day, otherwise all other days are working days and which is why tribunals sit on Saturdays and elections are also conducted on Saturdays and Sundays,” he stressed. He further said: “What Justice Abang should have done when they brought the case before him was to wash his hands off the case like Pontius Pilate. In all ramifications, every section of that judgement was a great disservice to law.” and I am happy the Court of Appeal has set it aside and I expect the Supreme Court to do same”.

I believe the judiciary council should step into this.

It is getting obvious that Okon Abang is letting political affiliation tamper with his ability to deliver justice.

His younger brother Etim Abang is the APC leader in Mbo local government area of Akwa Ibom State.

It is usual to see people comment on hot topics like they know what they are talking about. Below are some of the comments from some of our able bodied APC pundits on this Abia state issue 2 months ago. Time will always tell as usual

Next time when you see these guys xomment on any issue, you can be sure they are talking a huge load of bull sheet

No...more like Kangaroo politicians and Kangaroo parties....and kangaroo electorate and election bodies....that refuse to let the process be clean.

Someone has to clean up the mess left behind...and it is our judges.

Or is it the Judge's fault that Ikpeazu did not have all the legally needed documents needed to contest for election?

What kind of debacle is this?If the man is issued a certificate of return but the usurper is still on the seat, then INEC just scammed the man.The best thing is to swear him in immediately, the usurper should vacate the seat joor, inec certificate of return is not a recharge card o!!

I know Oro nation also comprising of Mbo where he hails from had this ambition of producing the governor of akwaibom, saying it's "their turn", forgetting that it was zoned to the senatorial district comprising eket, onna, ibeno, eastern obolo, ikot abasi etc.

It is the first time this zone is producing governorship flag bearer, so how is it "their turn"?

When udom was chosen as the pdp candidate, they aligned to APC and provided deputy governorship candidate. It is no hidden fact that the oron people are now politically inclined to APC.

You are very much in line with the position here. I am a corps member, serving in Uyo and this is the feeling down here except the Eket and the Eastern Obolo people, that senatorial district is really the heartbeat of APC in Akwa Ibom State. Do you know that the Apc Candidate Umana failed his local government "Nsit Ubium"

The noise is not the problem but the resultant damages they cause, Okon Abang has become an embarrassment to the judiciary, a thorn to PDP and an evil waiting to befall APC. cool

Abang may end up like Justice Salami of the Salamigate era. We can vividly remember how the later was touted as an alleged willing tool in the hand of the old ACN.

I am ashamed that this man is from my state. How i wish that i have d wherewithal to summon all Akwa Ibomite and we declare this corruption man a persona non grata: or we sell him to Kenya.
We had a robust and intelligent Judge in d person of late Udo Udoma who make us proud not this man.
