@illusion2
Y'know the beauty about United? Versatility. Versatility that actually works.
Fergie can decide to play Rooney on the wing, Berba in MF,  Giggs and Owen up front and goals would still flow in. Now that's what we call a plan B. Defenders remain unsure who exactly to mark, who exactly to look out for.
Fergie can still remix his team in 2 more different ways without Rooney being up front and still win games.
Unpredictability.  .  .opponents don't always know what to expect.

Ronaldo's case was a foregone one. . .what gaffer in his right mind wouldn't assign 3 men to one of the world's best players?

Rafa, on the other hand, has got Torres-Gerrard. End of. Nothing else. Worse, everybody knows that. So when teams want to play Liverpool, their main worry is how to stop Torres and Gerrard. Heck, do they even bother with Gerrard? Strong teams just lock Torres down and life becomes smoother.

My point is, there should be some sorta variety in attack, not the same old plan day in, day out. Predictability is never good for any team. Look at Chelsea as well.  .  .that same versatility exists. Their players interchange roles smoothly. You can't just predict where and how exactly they plan to play. They adapt their style as the game proceeds.

Liverpool don't do that. As for the MF issue, does it mean the team will always lose when Javier doesn't play? See why I say y'all lack versatility?

As for Rantin' Rafa, na today? grin You should know your gaffer better.
You obviously don't watch Liverpool games . . . .ever heard of Kuyt,Benayoun

Today the tactic changed which prob led to our loss i already analysed our regular style of play here

We play Gerrard behind Torres while Benayoun & Kuyt come in on the wings, for today's game Yossi played deep,Stephen G moved to the left etc. . . .  .so Alex F isn't the only manager that moves 'things around'. . , . .neither is 'versatility' a character of only one team tongue

Do we rely a lot an those 2 (Gerrard & Torres) for our goals. .  .maybe ,but so do other teams rely on their main starts

Can we do better? . . . . .  definitely. . .all teams have room for improvement.

But don't just say. . . .because Torres was marked out . . . Liverpool can't win. . .we won the UCL in 2005,fought MANURE to the wire last season,so we are not some cheap, side. .  .ok?

Replace your ''maybe'' up there with a resounding YES. Your statement above roughly summarizes my point. grin

If y'all are not some cheap team, then for Pete's sake quit producing game plans like one. Quit being that predictable, that. . .cheap.
Rafa 'moved things around' and your team messed up bad. Fergie moves things around and the team soars. Spot the difference. Liverpool lack versatility, end of.

Phony200:

Enough to make SAF realise he's not indispensable and sell him for a rocket-full of ££££  grin grin grin grin. Here's a fact to chew on, Rafa has no drawing board, he only has a little notepad where he writes little facts about other people's plans.

So?

Tell him o! Then come back and tell me what I asked you. grin

Tottenham 2 - 1 Liverpool (16th Aug, 09). Same team United defeated 3 - 1. Happy?
Sad how fans let their ''love'' blind them to the deficiencies in their team.

Stay there admiring Fergie while Liverpool keep floundering like Arsenal. grin If you like hit your head against the wall.  .  .United remain a more versatile team than Liverpool. You really don't have to like it.

All Fiorentina had to do was assign a four-man marking squad to Torres, and the story ended before it began. grin
That's what I'm trying to make this dude realize.  .  .Liverpool rely way too heavily on Torres and Gerrard. Won't hurt to try new things with other players in attack so they don't become too predictable. Instead of admitting, hez going on about United this, Ferguson that.

@Borat
Don't start boasting early o. After the Wigan display, they could defeat you guys. grin

Cristalz,

it is either u know nothing about Liverpool and football in general or u are just being an opinionated scummie who cant see beyond your scummy bias.

All your talk about it is Rafa's fault that Torres did not play well yesterday is pure garbage and it just underlines my first two statements.

Losing to Fiorentina is not a new thing, every team can struggle. Rafa must have got it wrong in terms of tactics but some of the players did not do well too.

Honestly, I wanted this kind of result becos I feel the Chelsea game will be more important. A loss or a disappointing draw at Florence will make us stronger against Chelsea.  But we missed Mascherano last night.

Feel free to pick whichever option helps you sleep at night. grin

You, on the other hand, are a blind, hopeless fan. Liverpool did not play well in the first half only. 2nd half, it was Liverpool that dominated. Either your pain did not let you realize that, or your view from your next door neighbor's window was too poor.
Torres hardly got up to 5 seconds on the ball before at least 3 purple shirts descended on him. The poor dude was so pissed and frustrated. He never got the chance to ''not play well''.
In addition, Fiorentina defended like pros.

Rafa has got a lot of blame 'cos the Torres-Gerrard affair is very predictable. Dispute that and let Amadioha strike your bum with thunder. cheesy What other strategy did he have under his belt last night? Absolutely nothing.
When what was on ground wasn't working, he didn't change it. Voronin came on for Kuyt. . .to do what? What attack strategy changed? It was still a completely Torres-Gerrard affair.

What poor managers you lot make. . .just like your gaffer. cheesy

''It is rafa's fault Torres didn't play well''

that is one ridiculous statement , Cristalz said that and it makes it more shocking. ridiculously shocking!!!
Re: Champions League: Fiorentina - Liverpool,2-0 On Tuesday 29th September 2009 by Cristalz(f): 5:45pm On Sep 30, 2009
I never said Torres didn't play well.  .  .I said Torres was heavily marked. I said a four-man marking squad was assigned to Torres. And it's Rafa's fault.

Brain cells asleep? Means the heavy marking is Rafa's fault 'cos he relies too heavily on the dude and Gerrard. I said Torres hardly got a chance to ''not play well''(that was a sarcastic shot at you for saying some players didn't play well, which wasn't the case in 2nd half), much less even play.

Obviously you are too petty and narrow-minded to understand properly. Buzz off.  .  .I've got Wolfsburg to worry about. grin

How is it Raffa's fault?
Re: Champions League: Fiorentina - Liverpool,2-0 On Tuesday 29th September 2009 by Cristalz(f): 5:57pm On Sep 30, 2009
Brash dearie.  .  .
All skilled attackers are usually marked for obvious reasons.
In 'Nando's case, Rafa makes Torres/Gerrard the head of his attack rocket. No other variety exists 98% of the time.

Now, if you were up against such a team, what would you do first? I know I will first disable the Torres/Gerrard partnership. Make sure they always run into dead ends. In Fiorentina's case, they zeroed in on Torres. That's why he had four men assigned to him alone. He hardly got to play at all.

If there were other players to be wary of, some other strategy, Fiorentina wouldn't have been busy concentrating most of their energy on Torres 'cos they would've had other worries to deal with. But they didn't 'cos Rafa centered on Torres and Gerrard on the night, which is what he does most of the time.
If Rafa would put some versatility, some sort of plan B in his attack that doesn't always feature Torres as the main man, defenders will not always know exactly what's coming at them, and thus, will not know what to look out for. The element of surprise always works in attack and Rafa doesn't have that.

A team can look at United and say ''no Rooney, no Berba'' and still be very wary. They can look at Arsenal and say ''no RVP, no Eduardo'' and still be very wary. But when they look at Liverpool and see ''no Torres, no Gerrard'', they go ''yay, we can do this''. Is that healthy for a team?
Can I now be allowed to go worry about Wolfsburg in peace? grin
Re: Champions League: Fiorentina - Liverpool,2-0 On Tuesday 29th September 2009 by MrCrackles(m): 6:01pm On Sep 30, 2009
^ I get your point Crizzle Drizzle. . .
IMO i thought Torres had a bad day at the office. . .
Nothing major to do with Rafa
Players at times use thier common sense, rip up the manager's tactics and if it pans out well, the manager wont say nowt. . .And vice versa!
All good though. . .
I expect Liverpool to grill Fiorentina in the return leg and the Torres/Gerrard partnership will flourish. . .

On a good day, Torres will rip any defence line apart, even if they are stacked up on 2 1's. . .
Re: Champions League: Fiorentina - Liverpool,2-0 On Tuesday 29th September 2009 by Cristalz(f): 6:12pm On Sep 30, 2009
Not true. Torres happens to be human. When he has no space at all, he doesn't do much.
I hadn't seen that many defenders around him in a looong time. It's like there was always a purple wall around him. That's why Rafa needs to introduce a plan B. . .while others are leeching onto Torres, some other persons will be creating havoc.
Then they will leave Torres to go attend to those others, and when they do , Torres will get the space he needs to do his thing. Will leave any back line confused.
