Apapa is more commercial and industrial than Victoria Island. Most companies have their corporate headquarters in Victoria Island and not their factories.

seun, it's high time we started discussing more important issues only on this our one and only forum. i see no reason why one will wake up one day and start posting a not important issue he'd "wondered"

mr. poster, you neither gave us the reason for your enquiry nor your own opinion. abeg let's discuss more important things.

Apapa - definitely is more commercial.

Remember, a major gateway for both Exportation and importation (the Apapa Seaport - Nigerian Ports Authority) is located there. Also, lots of government agencies as well as individual and corporate businesses have their offices in Apapa.

I work in Apapa and i can confess that the traffic situation, after closing hours is worse than that in V/I.

Apapa feeds a certain industry and could be busy,
its also highly residential

but Victoria Island is more 'commercial' and busier
infact its hard to believe people 'live' there
Many people live on the mainland and go there to work

Depends on what your definition of commercial is.
Victoria Island is the Financial capital of Nigeria.
Apapa is the major seaport in Nigeria.

Oga franctony i dont know what u mean by important issue. This issue is more far important than any post u've posted on Nairaland. For your information foreigners use this site as reference point to  get relevant information about Nigeria. Its pathethic that all post on NL must be Bad mouthed. What kind of Human beings do  we have in this country self.

Well Apapa is Highly Commercial and The ports in Apapa(Tincan and Apapa Port) accounts for over 80% Goods imported into the country.
Victoria Island has more of Corporate Offices and Business. These Businesses maintains this ofices to make Deals with Customers, Banks and Investors.

back then I thought victoria island was meant to be a residential area pre 2000

most residential areas in lagos will eventually end up as a commercial area or religious speaker battle zone

I think that as far as coomercial is concerned, one has to give it to VI. VI has been changing so much in the past few years. Much of the VI extension area were supposed to be residential until financial insitutions started moving away from the main Lagos Isaland to VI and that was how the 'explosion' started The people who used to live in VI have now made Lekki and Ajah their new homes. So today's VI has taken over from Broad Street as Nigeria's commercial capital.

Apapa has the factories and the ports but it has not been expanding the way VI has been. It is clogged up by articulated vehicles doing the port round that one gets the impression that it is densely populated. VI definitely is the more commercial. Go to VI in the weekend and there are many streets that are unpassable in the week where you wont even see a single person.

Re: Apapa Vs Victoria Island: The Most Commercial Area ? by kamsi(f): 4:48pm On Sep 30, 2009
I think it is Apapa I work in Apapa and it is so busy, you would find all categories of people from corporate type persons to the clearing and forwarding touts to madmen( honestly this is the only location I have found the most number of mad people in Lagos especially the Apapa port area)

It wasn't easy for me when I started working at Apapa some young ladies in our office refuse to go outside from the office without an official escort. I think Apapa is more commercial that is why it draws all sorts of human character.

V.I might have more offices but once those people arrive they go up to their offices but in Apapa most people's office is actually on the road! grin
