Jaguar Land Rover will make its own V8 gasoline engines, but not for long

The AJ-series 5.0-liter V8 compressor assembly will move from Ford’s closure plant in Bridgend, South Wales, to JLR’s own facilities in Wolverhampton, West Midlands, but BMW units will replace those Ford-genetically engineered engines next year.

The Ford Motor Plant in Bridgend was launched in the late 70s of the last century and at the best of times produced 700 thousand units a year. Now this plant is being closed as part of Ford’s global restructuring program, the last engines will be assembled here in September, after which the young British company Ineos Automotive will be engaged in reformatting the plant to suit its needs.

Now in Bridgend, Ford produces for its own needs 1.5-liter Ecoboost gasoline turbo engines (also known under the in-plant name Dragon), old aspirated Sigma family (in particular, they are bought by Caterham) and the aforementioned AJ V8 compressor series for Jaguar Land Rover.

Suzuki hatch has a second clone from Toyota: Starlet returns to the market

“Five-door” under the revived name Starlet is going to be sold in Africa. The model is a Suzuki Baleno with Toyota emblems, and in the range of the latter brand there is already a Suzuki clone – Glanza.

Toyota and Suzuki announced their cooperation a few years ago, one of its points is the “exchange” of cars. At the moment, Toyota has “borrowed” two models from a partner, both are still available only in India, and production has also been launched there: this is the Glanza hatchback (launched in 2019) and the Urban Cruiser subcompact SUV (it debuted the other day, orders are open), then there are Suzuki Baleno and Vitara Brezza respectively. Suzuki, in turn, is preparing to bring the Across crossover made from RAV4 to the European market (production will be established in Japan). Meanwhile, according to the agreement between the firms, Suzuki clones with Toyota emblems will not be “exclusive” for India – they will also be brought to Africa. The Indian company Maruti Suzuki will be the first to export the hatchback, and the African version has been renamed: the cars in the pictures, which were at the disposal of GaadiWaadi, have a Starlet nameplate on the tailgate.

Lineup plans: Ferrari is not going to make hybrids from Roma and Portofino

The Italian sports car manufacturer explained that the platform of these models does not imply an electrified “filling”.

The Ferrari company intends to release fifteen new products over the next few years: this number will include both completely new models and restyled versions, as well as additional modifications to existing cars. So far, the Italian manufacturer is in no hurry to switch its cars to alternative power sources, preferring to equip them with traditional internal combustion engines. However, changes are still expected in the future.

The hybrid installation will subsequently receive the successor to the current Ferrari F8 Tributo. Its history began back in 2009 with the appearance of the Ferrari 458 Italia. Six years later, the car was converted into a 488 GTB, and in 2018 a special version was presented – the 488 Pista. It was her modernized version that became the current F8 Tributo coupe, which debuted at the end of February 2019.

New sports car Lotus: light, petrol and possibly with a Geely engine

Lotus entered the Chinese holding company Geely in 2017 and has had sufficient funding since then, but so far it has not presented anything other than the flagship electric hypercar Evija. Meanwhile, according to Auto Express magazine, a relatively affordable and massive novelty is just around the corner – it will hit the market next year. It’s high time, because we haven’t seen a truly new Lotus model in 12 years (the last was the Evora, which debuted in 2008).

Contrary to expectations and previous promises, the lineup will not be joined by a crossover, but by a sports car on a completely new, very lightweight platform, and its engine will not be a hybrid, but a gasoline one. If Lotus buys engines from Toyota for its current models, then in the light of integration into Geely it will look logical to switch to corporate units, that is, to Geely engines, but modified by Lotus specialists.

Next-generation Chevrolet Equinox crossover will move to another platform

The new generation model should be presented in 2024. Its production will be established at several factories.

Chevrolet has been producing the Equinox crossover since 2004, and since then the model has managed to change three generations. Sales of the current generation of the SUV started in the American market at the beginning of 2017. And at the beginning of 2020, the updated Equinox was declassified: in January, photos of the Chinese version appeared on the Web, and in early February, Chevy officially presented the refreshed cross for the States. Nevertheless, the manufacturer has already drawn up a plan to release the “fourth” Equinox.

Despite the very recent presentation of the 2021 model year car, the company is already preparing for the debut, albeit not soon, of the next generation Equinox. According to the GM Authority, the crossover will be shown in 2024, and production will begin in the same year at the General Motors plant in Ramos Arizpe (Mexico). It is expected that later, in November of that year, the model will enter the assembly line at another GM Mexican plant, which is located in San Luis Potosi.

Lexus ES gets all-wheel drive for the first time in its 30-year history

The version with a wheel arrangement 4×4 – ES 250 AWD – is equipped with a 206-horsepower four-cylinder atmospheric engine with a volume of 2.5 liters.

The Japanese brand has been producing the Lexus ES mid-size sedan since 1989, that is, its history goes back more than 30 years. During this time, the model has changed seven generations, the company presented the current “four-door” in the spring of 2018 at the Beijing Motor Show. The car is based on the GA-K platform, and Toyota Avalon, RAV4 and Highlander are also based on it.

Throughout the existence of the model, the Lexus ES has always had only front-wheel drive, and now the Japanese manufacturer has decided to bring to the market a modification with a 4×4 wheel arrangement. The all-wheel drive transmission is borrowed from the Toyota Avalon sedan (introduced in the US in the fall of 2019): it has a rear wheel coupling that can transmit up to 50% of the torque to the axle.

The version with all-wheel drive is available only in the Lexus ES 250 AWD version, such a “four-door” is equipped with a 2.5-liter A25A-FXS four-cylinder atmospheric engine with a 206 hp output. (maximum torque – 249 Nm). This engine is paired with an Aisin eight-speed automatic transmission.

The Aventador SVJ coupe, which debuted in 2018, is still the fastest production car in the Nürburgring (lap time of 6 min 44.97 s). The 6.5-liter naturally aspirated V12 on this car produces a maximum of 770 hp. For the Sian hybrid, the legendary engine was “fed” up to 785 hp, and in conjunction with the electric motor, the maximum 819 hp are obtained. In the track Essenza SCV12, the naturally aspirated engine produces 830 hp without any hybrid add-on – thanks to racing settings from the Lamborghini Squadra Corse factory team and a reduced drag exhaust system from Capristo.

The CFRP body for the Essenza SCV12 is actually redesigned to meet FIA requirements. It does not have an additional roll bar, and the sequential 6-speed X-trac gearbox, which replaced the road 7-speed “robot”, is inscribed in the power structure of the body. The original push rod rear suspension with push rods and horizontal shock absorbers is also attached to it. The drive is exclusively rear.
